Hi I'm Jon Nanto

I'm from North Carolina. I'm a project manager. I love college football. I'm a Dr Who fan. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a father of three teenage children so I don't have any hobbies of my own. Well, I do enjoy reading. I love college football and college basketball. I like camping and white water rafting.

Why I am a Mormon

That's a difficult question to answer in a short paragraph or two. Let me explain it this way - when Phillip first heard Jesus, he rushed to tell Nathanael that he had found the One that Moses and the prophets wrote about. When Nathanael heard it was Jesus of Nazareth, Nathanael asked "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Phillip answered, "Come and see." In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I have found Jesus Christ and His Church. Now you may be thinking, "Can anything good come out of Utah?" Well, come and see.

How I live my faith

I attend church each week. I also try to live my life according to the teachings of Jesus Christ. I do a lot of volunteer work with the youth in our congregation. I am a Counselor to the Bishop of our congregation. I like to read in the Bible and Book of Mormon to learn more about Jesus Christ. I pray with my family and by myself.

What is being a Mormon like?

Jon Nanto
It's not easy. Our Sunday services are three hours long. We often have additional meetings or activities. We live our lives according to a standard that many view as "old fashioned." Many view us as strange or peculiar. We're kind of a pop culture joke (thanks South Park). Even with all of that, I would not change. I love the happiness that comes through the service that I provide. I also know that every sacrifice I make is a way to show Christ how much I love Him and how grateful I am that He paid the price for my sins. Show more Show less

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Jon Nanto
That's a question that's easier to understand after you know a little bit more about what the Book of Mormon is. It is a record of a people that lived in the Americas hundreds of years ago. It covers a time period of more than a thousand years. Because this time period is so long, many different people kept the records. These records were compiled by a man named Mormon. Since he did the compiling, the book is named after him. He lived around the year 385 AD. After compiling the record, he passed the compilation on to his son, Moroni. Moroni kept the record after his father's death and eventually buried the record in a hill in upstate New York. Many centuries later this same Moroni appeared to Joseph Smith in a vision. Moroni told Joseph Smith where the record was buried. Joseph received the book and through the power of God he translated it from the ancient language to English. So there you have it, it was written by many people, compiled by Mormon, and translated by Joseph Smith. Show more Show less
