Hi I'm Brittany

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife to a wonderfully hard working husband and a mom to the cutest little 2 year old with another daughter on the way. I like to blog, listen to music, snowmobile, go 4-wheeling, roast hot dogs/marshmallows up the canyon, go swimming, play with my daughter, read, and sleep!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up Mormon, raised by Mormon parents, who themselves had Mormon parents, so going to Church was just something we did. I remember really loving Primary though, especially singing time. When I became a teenager I really loved our youth group, Young Womens and enjoyed the activities and camp we went to in the summer for about 4 days. I didn't actually read the Book of Mormon all the way through until I was 14/15 years old and in 9th grade Seminary. I really loved my Seminary teacher and loved that class. In High School I wasn't always so good about going to Young Womens and Seminary and reading my Book of Mormon or praying. When I was 18 I decided to take an Institute religion class at the local college class and LOVED it. Loved the teacher, best class I have ever taken. 12 years later I still remember it. I started reading the Book of Mormon again and praying. One prayer during this time, I will always remember. I knew my Heavenly Father loved me and was aware of my trials and suffering. I literally felt like He was hugging me. After that it was easy to live my religion. I had great friends and we had really good clean fun. But sadly things aren't not always easy forever. And I have to work hard at staying true to the things I believe in. The world gets in the way. Temptations are strong and 2 year old little girls are trying : She is trying to teach me patients, which doesn't always work for me! But I know that when I am reading my Scriptures and praying, going to Church, paying my Tithing 10% income to Church, having Family Home Evening, and following His commandments that my home runs so much calmer and peaceful and there is less contention and stress and anxiety and irritability. I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ live. And that they appeared to Joseph Smith and that he was a Prophet of the Lord. I know that President Thomas S. Monson is a true living Prophet today. I love our leaders and though I have never met them personally I know them to be good honest men. Just listen to them speak and watch how they treat their wives only one each I promise! and you will know them to be good honest respectful men also. I believe that Jesus atoned for my sins and I believe in the power of repentance. It's hard to explain how I know. It's just a feeling and I believe it.

How I live my faith

I attend Church meetings on Sundays for 3 hours and am on an activities committee called Relief Society Activities, which is for women. We try to have Spriritually uplifting fun activities. Like a couple of weeks ago we did a getting to know you activity we have so many apartment building in our area and people are constantly moving in and out, where we put 3 things about ourselves in a bag and everyone tried to guess who it was. We also do a Girls Night Out in the Fall, where we get together on a Friday night and do some kind of crafty things. It's a lot of fun! As a family for our faith, we try to pray together and read Scriptures and have Family night or Family Home Evening, which is usually done on Monday nights and we have a lesson, scripture, prayer, treat, sometimes a Mormon video, or at times we just go out as a family and go bowling or miniture golfing or swimming. My family isn't always great about Family Home Evening every Monday and now my husband works some Monday nights, but we try to be together as a family as much as we can.

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

Brittany
Different members of the ward are usually called on to give a talk during one meeting called Sacrament Meeting. They are given a subject to talk about, but then the rest is up to them. We don't have rehearsed sermons. The first Sunday of the month is dedicated to members bearing their testimonies of the truthfulness of the Church. We then have a meeting called Sunday School or Gospel Doctrine where the adults go and learn Gospel Principles. Teenage children go to their own Sunday School classes also and younger children go to Primary. Teenagers then go to Young Men's or Young Womens and learn specific responsibilities for just the men or just the women. And the adult women go to Relief Society and learn about our specific responsibilities and the men go to their Priesthood classes. Visitors are definitely welcome to come anytime. Anyone can attend our church meetings. We usually dress up in dresses or skirts for women and suits or shirt/ties for men, but there have been visitors come in Levi's and we are definitely ok with that. Show more Show less

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Brittany
President Hinckley (one of our Prophets) said, "My beloved sisters, please know how much we appreciate you. May the blessings of heaven rest upon you, without you the plan could not function. You have great strength. Walk with pride. Hold your heads up. Work with diligence. Pray with faith. You may never know how much good you accomplish. Someone's life will be blessed by your effort. I bear testimony before the entire world of your worth, of your grace and goodness, of your remarkable abilities and tremendous contributions, and invoke the blessing of heaven upon you." So yes we believe in the equality of men and women, we each just have our different roles that we play in this life. Show more Show less
