Hi I'm Phil

I'm madly in love with my wife, I've been a Mormon my whole life and I love it!

About Me

My incredible wife and amazing children are the joy of my life! Other joys include languages, sports, and music. I learned Russian during a two-year mission in Russia, I picked up a little Spanish from my roommates in college, and I tried to toss a little Chinese in there while my wife and I taught English in Taiwan. I love everything that has to do with sports, especially frisbee, basketball, soccer, baseball, hiking, tennis, football or racquetball. That's not to say that I'm good at any of those - I just love them. I started playing music when I was young. Still do, and it inspires and relaxes me. As my wife and I stumble through the many expected or unexpected experiences we face together, we rely on our Savior and our testimonies of His gospel to lift us to a higher plane of living. We are so grateful we have the knowledge and divine guidance of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It makes us so happy every step of the way!

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are LDS (Mormon) as well. They taught me how to live my life in line with the things taught by Jesus Christ. It has been the biggest blessing in my life and I will be forever grateful to them for their incredible examples of faith and love. I hope I can continue what they've done for me and pass it on to my kids or any who are looking for a little peace and happiness in life.

How I live my faith

It's just a way of life. Nothing extreme. I love visiting and serving those who live around me. One of my favorite things I have done at church is to help the children learn fun songs of faith, courage, gratitude, and other topics that will hopefully provide them a source of strength as they grow. I have also helped teach and train the young men to be better fathers and men in this world.

What is faith?

My faith is a belief and a trust in God that is so strong, that I know if I do what He expects of me, then I will receive those blessings attached to the commandments and teachings of God. It is ACTION attached to BELIEF in something eternally and divinely true. "It is the substance of things hoped for (God's promised blessings) and the evidence of things not seen ("not seen" yet because we don't receive the blessings until after the trial of our faith)." - see Hebrews 11:1 Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

God wants every one of us to have Eternal life with Him and our families. When we are baptized, we make a covenant (or a two way promise) with God that we will keep his commandments and He will bless us for doing so. Eternal life with Him and our family is one of those amazing promises from God. It is so sacred that God sets the terms (He knows best). This is also why God's authority is needed to perform this eternal ordinance. However, not everyone has had the chance in this life to receive that sacred promise from God. There are tons of people who have died without even getting a chance. However, just because we die without baptism, that doesn't mean we are automatically kept from God's presence forever. Nor does it mean we will automatically be with Him. He wants us to be, and that is exactly why He allows us to perform the service of baptism in behalf of those who have already died. God wants us all to be enabled to live with Him and our families forever. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell to you there is a God?

In the scriptures, God gives commandments and He promises blessings for keeping those commandments. I have received too many blessings from God for doing the best I can to keep His commandments. The guidance and blessings I have received are not coincidence. I KNOW there is a God, and I love Him. I owe Him everything I have and am. God is real. Show more Show less
