Hi I'm Heather

I'm a Mom. I'm Educated. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mom of 3 young kids. I live in Nebraska, and I love my life here! Even though I have a Business degree from one of the top schools in the country, I am choosing to stay at home and raise my family right now. I love spending my days with my children, teaching them about everything from bugs to Bible stories. We are at the library every week bringing home stacks and stacks of books. Some of my favorite hobbies are reading, gardening, blogging, and bike riding. I spend a lot of time at the YMCA doing Zumba and Body Combat, and I never miss my monthly book club. I have great friends, some who are Mormon and some who are not. Life can be very busy at times, but I always know the Lord is watching out for me and hearing my prayers.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 11 years old, my Mom, my sister, and I began visiting with the missionaries from the LDS church. As they taught us the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the principles they were teaching did not seem new to me, instead they felt very familiar and comfortable, like it was something I had known before and was just being reminded of, even though up to that point I had not had much religious instruction at all. I felt confident, even at that young age, that what the missionaries were teaching was true. My Mom, sister, and I were all baptized into the Mormon church on the same day. It was a wonderful occasion. We have all been fully active in the church in the 20+ years that have followed. I love living as a Mormon, and I love raising my family as a Mormon. I love how strong families are in the church, and I love the comfort I feel knowing that our family is eternal. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior, and I feel his love in my life daily.

How I live my faith

I live my faith every day. I strive to pray and read my scriptures on a daily basis. I also strive to be obedient to the commandments given to us by Jesus Christ and in the scriptures. As a family we also pray, read scriptures, and learn about the teachings of our Savior. I serve in the church by teaching music every Sunday to the children ages 3-11. This is such an incredible way to serve! The children are so full of enthusiasm for learning the Gospel of Jesus Christ. By teaching them the songs of the gospel, I am hopefully helping them to strengthen their faith in the Lord. I also live my faith by supporting my husband in his calling as the Bishop of our church congregation. There are no paid clergy in the Mormon church, so every function of the church is carried out by volunteers who have regular jobs in addition to their church service. My husband has an MBA and works in a large corporation, but he is also responsible for the temporal and spiritual welfare of several hundred people at church. This takes significant time and sacrifice, and supporting him in this calling is another expression of my faith in the the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
