Hi I'm Aaron S.

I am a climber, canyoneer, mountain biker and river rafter but above all, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an outdoor enthusiast. I spend a lot of my time canyoneering and mountain biking. If there's a sunny weekend you'll probably find me in the sandstone catacombs of Southern Utah (slot canyons). I love interacting with people and the satisfaction that comes from serving others. I especially enjoy studying the scriptures and introducing people to some of the most remote and beautiful places in the world. I'm currently getting a Masters Degree in Instructional Psychology at Brigham Young University (BYU). This program teaches me how to help others learn more efficiently and teach more effectively. I hope to use this degree to help individuals better know the Savior's teachings.

Why I am a Mormon

My faith is what gives my life meaning and significance. I have come to truly know that there is a God in Heaven who loves us. He is not some incorporeal being without passions, but a loving Father who watches over his family. He loves us enough to let us make choices and even gave his Son so that we might be able to find reconciliation from our bad choices. I personally know that God is not silent, he speaks today and everyday if we but listen and open our eyes. He is always willing to provide fatherly council for any circumstance if we come to Him in sincere prayer. He speaks as he did in ancient times to living apostles and prophets, the first in modern times being Joseph Smith. The miracle in this church is found in the simple phrase "God speaks today". I know he does indeed speak for he has spoken to me. I further assert that he will speak to you, what greater companion could have than God?

How I live my faith

I am a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and strive to apply the teachings of the Savior in my life. I have participated and donated time and money to such organizations as the United Way, LDS Philanthropies and the Boy Scouts of America. Such organizations and others like it have given me opportunities to help the community and provide assistance for those in need. When I was 19 and 20 I voluntarily went to Greece to serve a mission. I paid for the costs, learned to speak Greek and taught people about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. A large part of my mission was not only teaching but doing what the Savior taught. I helped out at schools and individual homes and was a volunteer for the 2004 Athens Summer Olympic and Para-Olympic Games.

Who was Joseph Smith?

Aaron S.
Throughout time God has always called men to lead his church and act as his mouth piece; such men who receive this divine commission are called prophets. Abraham, Moses and Peter are examples of prophets who led the true church of God in their respectful era's. Joseph Smith is no different than one of those aforementioned prophets. In the spring of 1820, God spoke with Joseph Smith face to face just as he did with Moses (Ex. 33:11) and later called the young man to be a modern day prophet. Like Moses and Jesus Christ, Joseph Smith restored lost truths and received the proper authority to lead the true Church of God on the earth. Today their is an unbroken line of prophets who are authorized and guided by God to lead His true church. Show more Show less
