Hi I'm James

...and yep, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and the father of three beautiful (but certainly not perfect) children. More than anything I enjoy spending time with my family. We have a simple but happy life together. When I have spare time I enjoy writing and recording music, following baseball, playing golf, going camping, hiking, snowboarding, attending concerts, and generally just exploring new places.

Why I am a Mormon

I was not raised in the LDS Church. I made the choice become a Mormon at the age of 19 for many reasons. The simplest of these reasons is that nothing has ever brought me more joy. It is a joy that is deeper and more fulfilling than anything I ever thought possible. It gives my life a purpose and meaning. But it is not simply because of the peace and joy it brings to me, but because I believe with all of my heart that it is the truth of God. This knowledge has come to me from God through many powerful and personal experiences. I know exactly how crazy that might sound to someone who has never had those same experiences. I used to feel the same way. I do not resent or begrudge anyone for not believing as I do. If it were not for those experiences I would not believe it myself. But I cannot deny the experiences I have had, and I do believe it with my whole heart.

How I live my faith

I love being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I try to live my faith through Church service. Within the structure of the Church, each member is given opportunities to serve. My current assignment is to help in the local missionary efforts by helping people who may be interested in learning about the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is not necessarily an easy thing to do, but I find it to be very rewarding and I love it because I get to share the things that mean the most to me. Another way that I try to live my life according to my faith is by the work I do within my own home. My wife and I work hard to teach our children the right way to live so that they can become forces for good in the world. We attend church meetings each week. We read from the scriptures together most nights before bed. We spend time together as a family as often as we can, including one designated "family night" per week. I also strive to live my faith on a more personal level. I try to be the best person I can be each day, no matter where I happen to be. It is important to me to try and follow Jesus Christ every day of the week and not just on Sunday. I try to be an example for others to follow, a friend for others to confide in. I strive to be worthy of the trust and respect of those around me. How much I succeed or fail at this depends on the day. I am by no means perfect, but as long as I am trying to improve myself each day then my life is a success.
