Hi I'm Julia

I'm from Denver. I get excited about learning. I LOVE talking to people. I'm a Mormon. And I'm happy.

About Me

I have a masters' degree in instructional design and a healthy obsession with good teaching. I love to learn something new! I served as a missionary in northern California and I work for a university designing curriculum. I keep my life busy with good things. I am the favorite aunt of three nephews and two nieces. I also love singing and am learning how to play the guitar. I spend my free time getting to know people.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family that has strong roots in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When I was 13, I determined that I wanted to know on my own if everything I was being taught was true. I had grown up reading the scriptures but decided to make a sincere effort to really find out for myself if the Book of Mormon was the word of God. I still remember the feeling I had as I knelt in prayer and asked God for help with some problems that I felt were overwhelming in my life. I felt directed to open the Book of Mormon, and as I read, I felt the peace and assurance that only God can give. I knew that not only were the words on the page God's words, but that He was speaking to me personally through His book. I have had this same experience with the Bible and the Book of Mormon many times and know that God wants us to know Him and be close to Him. He has provided us the only way to come back home to Him through the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the same church that Christ set forth when He was on the earth. He organized His church so that we can receive all of His blessings in our lives and know the way back home. Following Christ and being a member of His church is the source of all true happiness in my life.

How I live my faith

I sincerely believe that the best way to follow Christ is to live a clean life and take care of each other. One of my favorite assignments is to watch over some of the other women in our congregation as their visiting teacher. Right now I also have the opportunity to teach a church class in the middle of the week where we study the scriptures together and try to strengthen each other by focusing on Christ. I feel that spiritual power comes to us as we focus on getting to know and help the members in our congregations, and my dearest friendships have come through trying to focus on helping others.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Jesus was the only one who could die and then overcome death. This means that because Christ overcame physical death, all of us will live again someday. He also overcame sin by living a perfect life and then suffering for all of our sins. He paid the price so that we can overcome our sin through Him. This is why Christ said that "no man cometh unto the Father but by me" in John 14:6. Christ is the only one with power and authority to help us get back home, and that is why He sets the terms for how we receive forgiveness and qualify for God's presence. No one else can make a family relationship last beyond death or cleanse a person from sin because no one has power over sin and death except Christ. Christ has always taught His way through His appointed apostles and prophets so that there will be no confusion about what we are to do. The Atonement is why it is so important that we find Christ's way and follow it. Show more Show less
