Hi I'm Shawn Alan

I work with computers. I love to skimboard. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Shawn. I come from a family of 10, including my parents, and I love it. Family is important to me. I enjoy skimboarding, playing tennis, information technology, and reading. I want to major in Computer Science but have also thought about Electrical Engineering or a Finance degree. It's hard to decide a major. I enjoy reading all kinds of books but I mostly enjoy books like harry potter, the hunger games, or finance books. My favorite band is We The Kings but I listen to pretty much everything. I suppose my favorite thing to do is learn new things.

Why I am a Mormon

I've been a member my whole life. However, during high school I could honestly say I didn't really know what I wanted in life and who I was. I was just some average guy who had no idea what I was suppose to be or do. I had the truth in my life, but I didn't realize that was what I wanted. I didn't realize that what I've been learning my whole life told me who I was and what would bring me joy. I would try to find replacements for "real joy" that never satisfied. I can now testify that I am a son of God. The following is how I came to know this for myself: First off we learn of eternal truth, whether spiritual or not, by the power of the Holy Ghost. In the scriptures it teaches us that we must first "study it out in our minds." Some of the most important acts I've done is to go to institute, seminary classes, church, participate in personal scripture study, and write in a study journal. Just like a college class you must read the book and attend the class before you can understand and know the concepts taught. I knew that I would not be able to feel the confirmation of the Holy Ghost unless I first made an effort to study the words given in the church. One night while I was studying my scriptures I had a feeling that I have a purpose in my life. The words written in the scriptures came alive to me almost as if it were as desirable and needed as food. This was a feeling of "true joy". I was at peace in my mind. All I wanted was to know more and serve God. I finally found for myself what would give me that purpose that I'd be willing to die for. I finally found that what I've been taught my whole life is true, and ever since I've been trying to improve my life in ways that will be pleasing in God's eyes. I am nowhere near where I need to be but I take solace in the fact that through the Atonement of Christ I can be forgiven of my sins. I am positive that through Christ is the only way we can find joy in this life and in the world to come.

How I live my faith

I try my best to follow the example Jesus Christ set for us. I still have a lot to learn and improve on but I hope that through Jesus Christ I can be better. Without him I am nothing. I try my best to be close to my family and to share this message with my friends. When I get the chance to do service projects in the church I try to volunteer for them. I suppose I'll just continue trying to learn and live my faith. For it is by "grace that we are saved after all we can do."
