Hi I'm Sarah Jane

I'm a Mormon. April 25, 2010 was the 1 year anniversary of my baptism.

About Me

I'm a mother of 6: 2 girls, 1 boy, and 3 stepsons. My 11 year old daughter and 9 year old son have both been baptised; I know in my heart that someday my 3 stepsons will do the same. I have been teaching high school English for 17 years; I love teenagers and I try to carry the Holy Spirit into my classroom and teaching every day. I grew up Catholic, but grew dissatisfied with it in college. I then tried a non-denominational Christian church, next Baptist. My husband grew up in an LDS home once he was adopted; he brought me to the church.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up Catholic, but grew dissatisfied with it in college. I then tried a non-denominational Christian church, next Baptist. Each time I felt as though something was missing. While my husband and I were dating we began to read the Book of Mormon together, then the Missionary Sisters came to the house and began lessons with the children and I. Immediately I knew that I'd found what was missing. This was all about family, the fullness of the gospel answered so many of my questions, and I knew that this was right! I prayed about it just like the sisters asked. The answer was loud and clear...this Church is true! I love the church, the prophet guides my family drawing us closer, and I love the Book of Mormon. I find comfort and peace in it.

How I live my faith

Our faith is a daily part of my family. Every night after dinner, before we get up from the table, we read the Book of Mormon together. Every Monday night is called Family Home Evening; this is time we set aside as a family when we pray together, share the gospel in lessons, play a game, and share a snack. Each person is responsible for some part of Family Home Evening. It's my favorite part of the week. I am one of 3 people in my school from the Church, so I try to carry my beliefs - in a public school appropriate way - into the classroom daily by making each child feel welcome and appreciated.

What are some things that tell to you there is a God?

Sarah Jane
I know there is a God every day when I kiss my children good morning and good night. I see Him in the beautiful creations I see everyday - animals, the sunrise, the sunset, the flowers, the babies I have carried and given birth to...I could go on and on. Just look around you and ask yourself "How else could this world have come to be?" I know the answer to that question in every fiber of my being: Heavenly Father. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about family?

Sarah Jane
Everything revolves around the family...Heavenly Father, His son Jesus Christ...my bishop told me that we are in the business of creating forever families, not tearing them apart. I know that one day my family - all of my family - will be together forever. You can find out how by talking to a member or a missionary. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Sarah Jane
Of course we are. We believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and that the only way to eternal life is through Him. Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Sarah Jane
Without a doubt...I truly believe that our prophet is chosen of God, inspired by God, and that he receives revelation directly from Heavenly Father. Show more Show less

Who was Joseph Smith?

Sarah Jane
Joseph Smith was a young man who was confused about which church was the right church. He did the right thing and asked Heavenly Father to tell him which church was right, rather than listening to what men said. As he knelt in the Sacred Grove he was visited by Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. They told him that none of the churches were right. From that moment he was guided by the proper authority to establish God's church here on Earth - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Show more Show less
