Hi I'm Amber

I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

About Me

My name is Amber and I love history, specifically American Military History. I am a college graduate and received my degree in International Relations. I love learning about the different cultures of the world and how we as individuals can learn and grow continually from each other. I love playing basketball and love to participate in most any competitive team sport.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints my senior year of college. By far it has been one of the best decisions in my entire life, no other decision has brought me greater joy. I was raised a Christian who attended church on a regular basis, in college I stopped going to church on a regular basis. After I met with the missionaries the first time, they asked if I would be willing to have an open heart and mind to read the Book of Mormon. I agreed, even though I didn't feel as anything would come out of it. When I started reading the Book of Mormon, I felt different, I knew the words I was reading were the truth and this sacred book came from God. From that point on, I went head first into my reading, I constantly wrote down questions for the missionaries and my friends who were members. There was not one question I asked that they could not answer. Questions that I struggled with my entire life in my faith. After 3 months of investigating, I knew there was no reason I should not become a member. I knew the Church was true, I knew the Book of Mormon was an inspired document and I knew that what I felt when I participated in any church activity or personal study was real. My life has completely changed for the better from the time I started investigating. I encourage those who have open minds and are willing to listen intently and honestly to the missionaries and their words. I hope all those who honestly seek the truth can find the joy and experience it such as I have.

How I live my faith

One of the greatest gifts of love that you can give to another is sharing your faith with them. I love having an open mind and heart when speaking with others about religion. The best way I live my faith is by trying to be the best representative of my values as possible. I've had leadership positions in the church, but I find that the most joy I experience is spending time with others and really getting to know them. I believe by having an open heart that is willing to listen and learn, you gain much more charity and love. By serving others, you in turn receive tenfold.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Mormon women are wonderful! Of course, I might be a little bias in my opinion as I am a Mormon woman, however I'd like to give a perspective of from when I was investigating the Church. I find Mormon women to be gracious, loving, giving and helpful. When I was investigating the Church, the women introduced themselves to me, welcomed me and were willing to help me in any way. Women in the church go out of their way to help others, I think there is an understanding that everyone needs help once in a while. While you may not necessarily be the one who needs help now, you may need help in the future. I find that Mormons absolutely believe in the equality of men and women, in fact as a convert I've found that women in the church are generally treated better than women outside of the church. In the fact that men understand the value of women and their role here on earth. We believe that men and women are equal, they were created to help each other, however, as in all relationships, we each have different responsibilites. Men and women of the church understand these responsibilities and the divine nature of each. I find because of the understanding of these divine responsibilities, men and women are able to live their lives in harmony, with each fulfilling their role.   Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

What a great question! When I started investigating The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I had not really thought about prophets. I knew there were prophets in the Old Testatment, but besides that I had never really thought about it. Little did I realize there are prophets in the New Testament and today as well! I do believe there is a prophet alive today. Although, he may not be what appears to be a "prophet of old", he has all the wisdom and knowledge for us in our day. He is part of the world we live in and thus from his understanding and experience in the world, he is able to go to Heavenly Father and receive direction on how to guide us in our world today. Heavenly Father has always had a prophet on earth speaking through him to his people, what would make him stop? In the world today, I feel we need more direction than ever and the prophet is one of those people who are representatives of Heavenly Father who provide that direction. Show more Show less
