Hi I'm Ryan

About Me

I have 3 funny kids, and a beautiful wife. I am a RN. I am currently a Nurse Anesthesia student in the midwest. I love disc golf, biking, and playing board games with friends.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were members of the LDS Church. Although I grew up in the Church, I have gained my own testimony of its truthfulness through prayer and study of the scriptures throughout my life. No other belief, counsel, or way of life has brought me greater peace and joy than the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, as found in the LDS Church. I am most happy when I live the things which Christ taught, and follow the counsel of a living Prophet today.

How I live my faith

I am extremely busy at this time in my life trying to earn a master's degree in Nurse Anesthesia. I take time out of my busy schedule each Sunday to attend Church with my family, and help in a small way at Church by playing the piano for the children's classes at Church. There are always opportunities each week in our neighborhood to join with other members of my Church to help those in need, or meet together to talk about our beliefs. I find that when I put the Lord first in my life, and spend meaningful time with my family, I do better in school and our family life is better.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

In the New Testament in 1 Corinthians 6:19 we are taught that our "body is a temple". We believe that in order to let our body be a temple, we need to treat it with the same respect that a sacred place, like a temple, would deserve. To do this, we believe that God has given us a code of health, called the Word of Wisdom, which guides us in making good choices for our body. This code of health, or the Word of Wisdom, encourages us to eat good food that will be nutritious and wholesome to the body. It teaches us and warns us against drinking alcohol or other substances that could harm the body. It is not difficult to find evidence of the harm that alcohol can have for an individual person of a family. Alcohol can diminish our ability to make choices for ourselves, and alter the way that we treat those around us. It can be addictive for many people, and be a great burden in those people's lives. Because it is impossible to know which people will have such major effects of alcohol, the Word of Wisdom simply teaches that no alcohol should be consumed by any person. Other drinks like coffee and tea can become addictive, and be used as a stimulant to get through the day for many people. Because we believe that our bodies are temples, we want to avoid any substance that could bring harm to our bodies in any way. We believe that by following the teachings of the Word of Wisdom we will be blessed with mental and physical health throughout our lives. This doesn't mean that we will always be without sickness, but we will be much better off than we could have been without living this law. Show more Show less
