Hi I'm LaShel

About Me

I am a stay-at-home mom with five wonderful children and a husband that is my favorite person in the world. I grew up in a large family and love family get-togethers. I spend most of my time taking care of our home and children. I love to try new recipes, work in the yard, and get to know all my neighbors.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because it is in the Lord's church that I find happiness and peace. I find so much comfort and purpose in knowing that I am on this earth to progress. We are on this earth to become like our Savior. I love reading the scriptures and seeing the example of Jesus Christ in how we should act in different situations. I know that even when I mess up I can repent because He atoned for our sins. He wants us to be better. He has given us a prophet on the earth today to help us know the Lord's will now. The church gives me opportunies to serve and helps me make friends but the reason I am Mormon is because I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true. I prayed and asked and my prayer was answered.

How I live my faith

I have a calling to serve with the Young Women (meaning the 12-18yr old girls) in our ward. I love it! I take turns with other leaders teaching them lessons about the gospel and helping them get to know the Savior better. I find that as I prepare lessons I am the one who is strengthened the most. Once a week we also get together to do something fun! We have sewed bags together, gone hiking, learned CPR, made salsa, line-danced, and things like that. They are always activities that help us better ourselves or prepare us to be better women. It is also because I am Mormon and have learned how important raising my children is that I choose to stay home with them rather than have a career. I studied Business and loved it! When I had my daughter I found that I missed the social interaction and excitement that comes from working. However, everyday there are little miracles that happen with my children and I am so glad that I am there to experience them and teach them the things I know.

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Mormon missionaries are there to teach. They will likely talk about the nature of God- that He is our Heavenly Father who loves us, that He has a body, that He is the literal Father of Jesus Christ. They will also talk about the "apostasy." This is when the entire truth that exists in the gospel was taken from the earth because Jesus' disciples died without being able to pass on the authority. Because of the apostasy a restoration was needed. The missionaries will teach about the Restoration and the prophet Joseph Smith. They are willing to answer questions and also accompany interested people to church. They never force people to get baptized. They just teach truth and teach people what God wants us to do while on this earth. Show more Show less
