Hi I'm Evan

I am a college professor, husband, father, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised in a great family and am the youngest of 6 siblings. My wife and I met in college. We lived our first year of married life on a dairy farm where I worked. This experience convinced me to return to graduate school! I have been teaching college courses ever since. I enjoy running, biking, and swimming. I also like reading.

Why I am a Mormon

I never had any intention of joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Growing up in a small town there were two LDS families that I knew really well, I played basketball and golf with their sons. While I considered them to be good friends, I had zero interest in their weird religion. After high school these two friends went on their missions and then to BYU. I went to college as well, but my brother in law helped me get a summer job in the Yellowstone/Grand Tetons area of Wyoming, USA. The beauty of that country had an affect on my Spirit. I began, in some small way to think about spiritual things. Also, I had many co-workers who were LDS. At the end of each summer, I returned to college in Virginia. That semesester I took classes in anthropology, religion, and literature. These courses were thought-provoking and led me to question what my purpose was in life. The questions I was asking myself were answered as I met with missionaries. They taught me to pray, something I had not really done before. At least the type of prayer where you expect an answer. From that experience I know that God does answer prayers if we trust Him.

How I live my faith

I live my faith mainly at home. My wife and children teach me by their example how to love and serve others. At church, I serve as leader of a small congregation and spend a lot of time in one on one counseling with our members. I make personal scripture study a daily routine. Living my faith is something tha goes on more inside me than outside. But my faith grows stronger whenever I try to serve others.
