Hi I'm Shawn

Happy guy with 1 amazing wife 2 awesome boys 1 beautiful girl and 1 great life!

About Me

I'm an educational consultant and trainer. Love to be outside and enjoy hiking and biking. I play a little guitar and like to draw. I'm a husband and a dad and love doing both.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to parents who were active members of the church. So as a kid I went to church and participated in activities did all the stuff you'd expect a "believer" to do. I served a 2 year mission proselyting for the church in southern France. It's hard to dedicate your life to serving God and his children and NOT feel something powerful. I felt God's love for people so unlike me in so many ways. I had some intensely spiritual experiences that convinced me that there really is a God and He loves his children, no matter who they are. Growing older, some of those memories and emotions have faded a bit, and sometimes doubts have arisen; doubts that have every reason to make a person ponder their faith. I think that's normal and healthy part of cultivating faith in something or someone you can't see. You have to work for faith. I'm still a Mormon today because I see the impact of the faith I have in all aspects of my life. I see the blessings that God has promised to those who do their best to follow the commandments and live the example of the Savior.

How I live my faith

I get up every day and try to do good by everyone I come in contact with. My dad taught me that "people are more important than things." I believe that's a real key to happiness so I try to live it. I sometimes fall short of what I expect of myself. That would be an easy time to feel depressed but I know the Savior atoned for me and that gives me strength to keep progressing.

What is being a Mormon like?

I think it's pretty much like being a member of most other churches. I wake up, I go to work, I go to church once a week, I participate in church activities from time to time, as well as civic and other community activities. I watch movies, I eat at restaurants, I play games, I hike, I read the scriptures. That said, there are certain things that we do that may not be considered "mainstream". For example, we don't drink alcohol, tea or coffee. We use clean language, we dress modestly, and abstain from sexual activities prior to marriage. I know to some that sounds overly and maybe unnecessarily restrictive but I've come to really appreciate it because it teaches self-mastery. Show more Show less

Can husband and wife be together forever? Do you believe that families will live together in heaven?

For me, this is the single greatest truth that the gospel of Jesus Christ realizes. I love my wife more than I can express. I have a hard time believing that God would create man and woman, put them together, teach them to love and cherish each other all of their lives, and then separate that bond when they die. Through His gospel, God has provided the authority to literally SEAL a couple together, and ultimately their family, for time AND eternity. Show more Show less
