Hi I'm Jared

I grew up in Sacramento, Ca. I work in the nuclear energy field. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Currently I live and work in Virginia. It is a very beautiful city with very friendly and spiritual people. Most of my time is spent serving in the church as the Scoutmaster for a local Boy Scout troop.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were active members of the LDS faith when I was very young. Later, they stopped going to church regularly. When I was 10, I had a friend at school who was Mormon who encouraged me to start going to church with him. Not long after that, I started meting with the missionaries and I wanted to be baptized. My Grandpa was still active in the church and I asked him to baptize me. It was a special experience. I had the opportunity to serve as a missionary in the Washington Seattle area where I had many experiences that strengthened my testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I gained an even stronger testimony of the Book of Mormon and the truthfulness of the vision which Joseph Smith had of seeing God the Father and His son, Jesus Christ. As I continue to live the gospel, I know that I am blessed far beyond what I could normally accomplish on my own. I also feel happier as I live the teachings of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

Most of my time is spent serving the young men of our local congregation as adult leader and the Scoutmaster for our local BSA troop. I really enjoy spending time outdoors and mentoring the young men, so serving in scouting is a great blessing for me in my life.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

The church expects all worthy young men ages 19-26 to serve a full-time mission for the church to help spread the message of Jesus Christ. The church also encourages young women at least 21 yrs old to serve full-time mission. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Mormons do not worship Joseph Smith. We worship God the Eternal Father and His son Jesus Christ. Mormons do revere, or hold in high regard, Joseph Smith as a prophet of God. He was the instrument that God used to restore His church upon the earth once again and as such, Mormons do talk a lot about Joseph Smith and the sacrifices he made to build Christ's church upon the earth again.
