Hi I'm Marty

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a swim coach of a YMCA team. I swim, row, throw the hammer. I am married and have children and grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church at the age of 18. I felt something as the missionaries taught me that felt so right, like I always had known the gospel was true. It was a powerful feeling, but difficult to learn how to be humble enough to be teachable. I have now been a member for almost 40 years. It is my comfort and my guide. I rely upon the Atonement of Jesus Christ. My mistakes are many and the burden becomes heavy without the repentance and forgiveness of the atonement. There is a lightness and joy in becoming free of my errors. The gospel has been a blessing in raising my family and learning to relate well to other people.

How I live my faith

I teach an early morning scripture class for high school students. I love my class and the challenge of creating a lesson each day to suit the needs of my class.

Why is it important for us to take care of our bodies? Why are our bodies called temples of God in the Bible?

Our spirits lived with God before we came to the earth. We gained our mortal bodies at birth to join our spirits and gain experience while on earth. Our bodies are made in the image of God and will be perfected and made eternal at our resurrection. It is our way to honor God to teach our bodies to be strong, competent, and use them to do good. Our bodies house our spirits just as the temples on earth provide a home for the Savior to visit. Our spirits dwell in them. Just as temples are beautiful and meticulously clean so should we maintain our health and strength to do justice to our spirits. Show more Show less
