Hi I'm Matt

I'm a Father, Brother, Son, Boise State University grad, Certified Financial Planner™, Spanish speaker, triathlete & I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a Kentucky native, having lived all of my youth in either Fort Thomas, or Pikeville, Kentucky. I have deep roots in the coal-mining, appalachian area of Eastern Kentucky. After high school I attended college at what was then Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. After two semesters, I left my family, friends, and studies to serve two years as a missionary in northern Chile. Those two years were an amazing and life altering experience for me. I came back and returned to what was then Brigham Young University-Idaho where I eventually met my wife and transferred to Boise State University to finish my bachelor's degree in Accounting. My wife and 2 beautiful daughters now live in Idaho Falls, ID. I am a financial advisor and Certified Financial Planner™ at a regional financial planning firm. I love my family and they are the most important thing to me. When I'm not involved with work, church, or family, you will find me being active somewhere. I love sports and the outdoors, some of my favorite pastimes are fishing, hunting, basketball, running, working out, or just going on a walk with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because of the purpose and perspective it provides me in my life. The church provides me a means to find a constant source for the teachings of Jesus Christ, and offers me ample opportunities to serve others and put my faith into action. There have been many situations over the years that I have felt that this is where I belong and that the church is guided by a living prophet who communicates with Our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. The things that I am taught and have been taught through the years have been integral in making my life up to this point a happy one, and one filled with purpose. There have been too many instances where I have had the Spirit whisper to me that I am doing what is right and that my Heavenly Father is pleased with what I am doing and with my decision to remain faithful to the His Son Jesus Christ and His church. This is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

For the last 2 years I was a teacher in the Sunday School, and absolutely loved it! Every other Sunday I was able to lead a discussion with others of my faith on many different gospel subjects from the Old & New Testament. I currently am the President of our Sunday School organization and help coordinate our different classes and teachers. I also help with our Boy Scouts organization by being a merit badge counselor for the Personal Management and Communications merit badges. In addition to this, I have 3 families that I visit monthly to check in on and see how they are doing. It has been a very rewarding experience to get to know these families better over the years, and we've developed a great relationship over time. Living my faith is something that requires a daily recommitment but has been worth it every step of the way.
