Hi I'm David

I'm a husband and father. I love the outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the husband of a remarkable woman, the proud father of two daughters and one son-in-law, and one grandson. My how time has flown!

Why I am a Mormon

I rejected the faith of my parents at a young age because parts of it didn't make sense to me. I had read the scriptures, prayed, and got nothing. When I told them, my parents showed some outward signs of grief, but allowed me my space. Later, I moved away and that created more space. I lived my life away from the faith of my parents and frankly, away from all faith. I embraced secular society. The problem was that no matter how much I focused on my career, learning the arts and sciences, advancing in prestige and material possessions, and on the emotional and temporal well-being of my family, I couldn't help but think that something wasn't quite right. It was like ignoring that you're hungry, but knowing at a subconscious level that something is wrong. One day I decided that I owed it to my wife and children to attempt, one more time, to see if God was out there. This time, rather than just read the scriptures and pray about it, I would actually try to live one commandment. Only one, and see what happened. An unexpected thing happened. The promised blessings regarding this one principle came true. I thought, God doesn't exist. How did this happen? It must have been a coincidence. So I tried it again with a different principle, and again the same result. Then, I decided to just immerse myself in it– I didn't know if any of it was true, but I thought to myself, if I did it all, I could determine once and for all whether it was all bunk or not. Maybe the earlier cases were still just coincidences. Something unexpected happened then. I actually started to feel God's presence in my life. I started getting answers to my prayers. First faint, just like a feeling of peace, and later much clearer. I started to feel like my eyes were opened, like I had lived my life without glasses or contacts and then put them on and everything came into focus. It's hard to explain, but I felt a light shining in my soul. It changed my life.

How I live my faith

I'm a sunday school teacher with my wife to a class of children. I get to work with other teachers about teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. It's very humbling and awe inspiring to attempt to do what Jesus did so seemingly effortlessly- to teach others about the gospel, and how to share it with their students, families, and friends. I always feel the confirmation of the Holy Spirit when I share the teachings of the Savior. When you teach with the Spirit, it strengthens the faith of both teacher and student, and moves believers to action.

Who chooses the Mormon prophet?

Heavenly Father does, through his son, Jesus Christ. This revelation is made known to the apostles of the Church, and to all of us, because all of us can experience first-hand the inspiration from the Lord. Anyone can all pray about the new prophet and receive our own confirmation that he is the elect of God. Show more Show less
