Hi I'm Douglas

About Me

I was born and raised in a small town in South Dakota. My dad was a farmer and rancher which kept me very busy growing up. I enjoy sports and played football and wrestled in high school. Wrestling was my main sport and as a senior in high school I won the state championship. I went on to wrestle for a junior college. After my freshman year of college I served a Mormon mission to Peru where I loved serving the Peruvian people. They are so humble and such a good people. When I got back from my mission I continued with school where I met my beautiful wife. Now we live in Utah and we have three wonderful kids. I am a J2EE software developer. Some of the things I enjoy doing are snowboarding, mountain biking, camping, watching college football, and being with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up I relied on the faith of my parents. The gospel of Jesus Christ made sense to me and I always felt it was true. I enjoyed reading the Book of Mormon and grew up admiring Joseph Smith and what he was able to accomplish in his short life. But it wasn't until I went to college that I finally gained a true testimony for myself that the Book of Mormon is true as well as the other things I had learned. I had a church leader who challenged me to try Moroni's promise at the end of the Book of Mormon (Moroni 10:3-5) to read, ponder, and pray to know if the book is true. For a number of weeks I read and prayed to know if it was true. But after my prayers I didn't give it much of an after thought. Then one night after praying I felt more of a desire than before. I laid in bed meditating over everything I knew about the Book of Mormon. As I laid there I had a warm, peaceful feeling come over my entire body and I knew that it was true. I am so grateful for this knowledge.

How I live my faith

I have always participated regularly in church. I try to do my best with my church callings and enjoy serving in them. Currently I help with the young men's sports program. Since I love sports this one has been pretty easy. Because of my faith I try to be a good neighbor, employee, friend, husband, father, and son. I'm far from perfect, but I know I'm on the right path to becoming more like Christ.
