Hi I'm Joshua Ben

About Me

I was born in North Alabama, where my parents were converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My wife and I have a 9 month old son, who has been a blessing in our home since the day he was born. I graduated from college a couple of years ago with a business degree, and I enjoy singing, video games, and spending time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, but over the years I have gained a firm testimony that it is true. Before I served as a missionary in Argentina for two years, I decided to read the Book of Mormon with the goal of finding out for myself if it is really true. I read it practically nonstop. I couldn't put it down. It consumed my life for a couple of months, and I was reading it every spare moment I had. While reading it, I felt the power and wisdom of God in its teachings. I decided to kneel down and pray to find out from God if it is true. As I prayed, I felt a peaceful and confirming calm come over me. In that moment, God spoke to my heart and let me know that it is a true book of scripture. Since then I have read it many times, and I feel that same feeling everytime I read. Since then, I have tried to help others gain a testimony like I did, because I know that the Lord has guided me to live my life in such a way that allows Him to bless me with so much! I have a beautiful family, a continuing thirst for knowledge, a constant desire to become better, and a surety that if I do all that the Lord has asked me, then I will be able to live with him again. I wish I could even begin to list all the blessings He has given me over the years!

How I live my faith

I am the president over the Young Men's organization at church, which means I am in charge of all the boys, ages 12-18. I am convinced that my assignment is the best in the world! I have a great time teaching these boys the gospel of Jesus Christ. I love helping them build strong testimonies that will provide a spiritual foundation for the rest of their lives. I try everyday to live up to what God expects of me. We live in an area where there aren't a whole lot of members of our church, and so I try my best to be a good example to others so that they can see what the gospel of Christ has done for me in my life, and feel the desire to do the same.

Why do you have 12 Apostles? They were just meant to be around for the time of Jesus Christ, not to be replaced with new apostles.

Joshua Ben
In the New Testament, you'll find that when one apostle was killed, another was always called to take his place. I believe that Christ always intended for there to be apostles to help build and guide His church, but because of the wickedness of the people in their day, they were rejected and many were killed. In Ephesians Chapter 4, we learn about how Christ established His Church, why he established it that way, and how long that structure was intended to remain: 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; He established that structure with apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers, so that we all could be perfected, edified, ministered unto, and to be "in the unity of the faith." Perhaps the reason why we see so many different churches out there is because so many don't believe there could be apostles and prophets anymore, therefore without them we're all "tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine." What is the priesthood?

Joshua Ben
The priesthood is the authority of God given to men to act in His name... to do what He would do if He were here himself. The priesthood has been established since the beginning of time. Throughout the Old Testament, we read of the many responsibilities of the priesthood in their day. Today, the priesthood is essential in order to be baptized and receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands. With that priesthood, all worthy males may participate in various assignments and ordinances. Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Joshua Ben
Absolutely! You can read that God has always called prophets and/or apostles to guide his children on the earth. Since the beginning of time we've always had a prophet there to guide us... from Adam to Noah to Moses to Isaiah to Paul to Peter, it is a blessing to know that God loves us so much that he would send us a messenger that gives us His word directly. Today, God has placed prophets on the earth. What a great thing it is to know that in such wicked times, we have someone who can help us distinguish what is right and what is wrong, and help us avoid the many pitfalls that are so prevalent in today's society.
