Hi I'm Gary

I'm an Engineer, Amateur Musician, Husband, Father and a life-longTease. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love being a father of five children and find such joy with my wife and family. Although I am a Chemical Engineer by training, I enjoy music of all kinds. Uplifting music has always drawn me nearer to God. Whether I am singing, performing or just enjoying the music that invites people to reflect upon our relationship to God I am lifted in amazing ways. One of my favorite recording groups today is the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. As a young boy growing up near the headquarters of the Latter-day Saint faith, my childhood dream was to accompany the Tabernacle Choir on the organ. Though I have not yet fulfilled this dream, I do enjoy accompanying my local LDS congregation as often as I can.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was born into a Mormon family, I have since learned for myself that true happiness comes in following God's plan for us. This plan is so carefully taught and understood in the Latter-day Saint faith. I have been taught to believe deeply in a loving Heavenly Father. I know that He lives and loves me. I have also been taught by good parents to believe in the Atonement wrought by my Savior Jesus Christ. Since that teaching in my youth, I have learned to apply this Atonement in my life. I have felt of the Savior's love for me. He has forgiven me for many mistakes and is the Light which helps me to steer clear of making more mistakes. As I strive to follow the Savior, I find peace in my life. My belief in Jesus Christ also makes me a better father. I hope, with all of my heart, to bring my family together to meet the Savior one day and to embrace Him and thank Him for the incredible gift of Love that He has offered to me and to my loved ones.

How I live my faith

I enjoy reading the history of people who have tried to live their faith in God. These histories are most often recorded in books of sacred scripture including the Bible and Book of Mormon. Every other Sunday I have been asked to teach something of what I learn in a gospel discussion group for adults that we call Gospel Doctrine class which is a part of Sunday School. So many times during these discussions, I have had the witness, given by the Holy Ghost, that God does live and cares so much for us, His children. I love to take every chance that I can to tell others about the incredible love of my Heavenly Father and of His plan for our happiness. My wife and I both find great pleasure in worshiping God with our family in church. We have also found the abundant life available by worshiping in our sacred temples. In fact, we have made attending the temple a part of our married life wherever we travel. With Latter-day Saint temples dotting the globe, we have been able to extend some of our vacations in visiting temples worldswide. In the temple, we are reminded that our families are meant to last forever. This truth gives us such hope and unity as a couple!

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Every other week I teach a class in Sunday School from the scriptures. I currently am teaching from the Old Testament and love to share its stories. Moses taught the Israelites to look to their God and live. His commandments are still in force and provide a path for happiness. I love the story of Gideon that I will teach this coming week. It reminds me that God will fight our battles if we but trust in him. Even a small army of 300 men can conquer when their faith is in God. I am so thankful for all scripture, including the Bible, and believe, as we are taught in Psalms that "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Show more Show less
