Hi I'm Derek

I am my children's father and my wife's husband.

About Me

Growing up, I have always loved to compete in sports and at anything I do. Through all of that competition, I never won a medal or reward that I can remember. I ran a marathon at eighteen and they gave medals out to the top ten racers. I came in eleventh place. There is one area of my life that gives me great rewards and that is my family. I have a wonderful wife and many children and they give my life meaning and reason to live. They give me joy and I am thankful for them. It is not bliss every day and I have found my patience is most tried by my kids but I am grateful to have a family and want to be with them forever. Through the gospel of Jesus Christ I have found a way to make that possible.

Why I am a Mormon

There are two sides to choose from. One side is easy but leaves me unhappy and focused on myself. The other is more difficult and requires that I overcome the flesh. And why should I yield to sin, because of my flesh? Yea, why should I give way to temptations, that the evil one have place in my heart to destroy my peace and afflict my soul? Awake my soul! No longer droop in sin. Rejoice, O my heart, and give place no more for the enemy of my soul. 2 Nephi 4:27-28

How I live my faith

I know that there are many who are much more righteous than I am. I strive to be a good husband and father and pray for that every day.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

I love talking about a testimony because it is what keeps me going and helps me through the tough times. A testimony is the result of taking that step into the dark with faith and seeing the results. The Lord promises blessings when we obey his commandments. When I pray and receive that peace, I know that Heavenly Father is there and loves me. My testimony is the knowledge I have after exercising faith. Show more Show less
