J. Rib: Mormon.

Hi I'm J. Rib

About Me

I am from California . I could do the same thing every single day and be totally happy, as long as it involved going running and playing basketball. I played a year in college, followed by a knee surgery that totally changed my life. I am a history major, I want to be a high school teacher, I love frozen burritos. I served a mission for the Church, I somehow ended up speaking three languages,Music has to be on all the time, I love people and life is so good.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because when my friend got baptized, as i sat in the service I knew, without a doubt, that the Church was true. I had been to many church events, I had read the BOM twice, but in that moment, i knew it was true, and I would do whatever it took to get baptized. I knew it was worth it. So thats how it started, now 5 years out I can I stay Mormon because I know its the Church of Jesus Christ, because the Gospel gives me happiness and direction and plays a huge role in the life I have today. And today, I have a dang good life.

Personal Stories

Why/How do you share the gospel with your friends?

This is an easy question and a great one. I love pizza. So much. one day i will open a pizza restaurant. When I go to a pizza place I really really like, I always tell all my friends, family and everyone i see that they should go also. its great food, great pizza makes me happy, so of course i want the people i love to have it also. The gospel is the same, except infinitly more important. I know what a great blessing the Gospel is in my life, I know when i am doing the right things, the Gospel brings great happiness. In mosiah 2:41 it says "And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and ahappy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are bblessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out cfaithful to the end they are received into dheaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness. O remember, remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoken it." This scripture sums it up, the Gospel makes us happy, thats why we share it. Its the best pizza out there! its a knowledge of the savior, Jesus Christ.

Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?

Let me just share this story. For thanksgiving I decided to go ahead and take a trip home to good old California. I got in the car, drove home by myself(unknown to my parents). Had a great time!. I decide to drive back on a saturday, I get in the car, and it starts snowing like crazy. About three hours in to a ten hour drive, I can not even see! I decide its safer to stop. I stop to sleep at my grandparents cabin which I thankfully had a key to. In the morning, after finding some boots and digging myself out i start the drive, only to find myself starnded and stuck an hour later. My chains are broken! I get out and try to fix the problem, no success. I am now in a very rough situation, and very much alone. I say a quick prayer, asking for guidance, and not 2 min later a mini van with a spanish speaking family pulls of. i ask the driver in spanish if he could help me. the man comes over, says of course and asks me how i know spanish. I say I served a mission for my church, he says oh yes i know that church. I am a BISHOP! for a ward near my college. i DONT THINK I HAVE EVER been so happy to see anyone! Heavenly Father does hear our prayers, and they do get answered.

Why do Mormons go on missions?

I went on a mission maybe for the wrong reasons. I went to prove I could, to chow my conversion was for the right reasons and to work hard. Now after serving, I realize the only reason i made it through was because of the desire I had to serve the lord and love his people, and it was so worth it.

How I live my faith

Living in the Church is such an incredible blessing. Participating in a church ward, or congregation gives incredible opportunities to serve and be uplifted. The ward is like one giant family. The saying "it takes a village" fits great into the church. My family are not members of the church, and truley my ward has become my family in Christ.
