Hi I'm Tyler Durrant

About Me

I am 21 years old and currently a student studying Psychology and History. I lived in Los Angeles, California for 2 years as a full-time missionary for the LDS church and learned Spanish fluently. I love sports, especially basketball. I love reading books and really love C.S. Lewis. I love seeing other people be happy.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that it is the Kingdom of God on the earth, the true church of Jesus Christ. I have found out for myself, just between me and God, that this is His truth. I have prayed, searching for truth, and I have felt of His Holy Spirit testify to my spirit that this church is true. I have found more joy and hope as I have learned how to better follow my Savior Jesus Christ. He is the only way. I worship Him and God with all of my heart, and strive to follow their commandments. I have a sure witness that the Book of Mormon is more of the word of God, that it goes hand in hand with the Bible. These scriptures have changed my life, and have helped me to lean on Jesus Christ and trust in Him. Through praying about the Book of Mormon, I have also come to know that Joseph Smith was called to be a prophet of God, just as God called Abraham, Moses, or Isaiah. I witness that Jesus Christ lives, that He is the Redeemer of us all, and through Him, we can return to live with our families and with God, forever.

How I live my faith

I currently am in charge of planning activities in my congregation of single student members of our church. I have recently planned a dance, a bbq, and a river floating trip. I also visit 4 members at least monthly to teach them the gospel and to see how I can help them out. I also get to teach new missionaries Spanish and train them on how to be missionaries wherever they go in the world.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Tyler Durrant
We know that we are saved through the Grace of Jesus Christ "after all we can do" 2 Nephi 25:23. God has given us commandments because He loves us, and Christ has admonished us that "If ye love me, keep my commandments" John 14:15. We also know that it is only through the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ that we can be saved in the Kingdom of God, yet we also believe that we must be obedient to God's commandments. There are certain ordinances, or sacred rites that we must participate in to enter the Kingdom of God. One such example is baptism by immersion, for Jesus truly taught "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God" John 3:5. I know that I could never return to live with God and Jesus Christ on my own, I rely on the mercy of Jesus Christ to save me. But I know that He expects me to follow Him and has set certain requirements that I must fulfill in order to return to His presence. Show more Show less
