Hi I'm Joel

I'm a Latter-day Saint.

About Me

I have been in education for 25 years. I am currently the principal of a charter school that focuses on providing a safe environment for learning through character development. We emphasize the importance of kindness and respect. My school has a reputation for high academic achievement and for being a place where there is NO teasing or bullying. Although this is not strictly true, I would say that I do 1/10th the discipline I have had to do in previous schools. I attribute this success to the fact that character development changes a person from the inside out, rather than having change imposed from outside.

Why I am a Mormon

Why am I a Mormon? I love the doctrine. I love the high standards and expectations that make you want to be better than you are. Knowing that God lives and cares for me personally and that my decisions matter to him is important to me. I have asked myself, "If God were to take a personal interest in a particular church, what would happen to that church? How would it be different than the others?" When I see the humanitarian efforts of the Church throughout the world, it matches with what I think the Lord's church would look like. T\I realize that the LDS church does not have a monopoly on good people. I know that you will find good, decent people just about anywhere if you look hard enough. I have a lot of very good friends that are not LDS. They are men and women of high morals and strong character and I admire them. That being said, it just seems easier to find good people within the LDS church. That is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

The most important way that I live my faith, is within the walls of my home as my wife and I try to raise our children in such a way that they will want to follow our good example and choose to follow the Savior themselves. I do believe that no success can compensate for failure in the home. I believe that the Lord cares more about my family responsibilities than my professional, or even my church responsibilities.
