Hi I'm Shantal

About Me

Well, I'm a native Kansan and a big Wildcat football fan. My husband and I watch the games together, good or bad. We have two very energetic little boys. I work as a substitute teacher and volunteer to assist military families when their soldier is away. I enjoy painting, gardening and dancing whenever I get the chance.

Why I am a Mormon

At first, it was because I was raised a Mormon. Then I went off to college...I saw how every walk of life lived and behaved. There were times that I thought "why should I have to follow the church? They aren't and things seem to be going well for them." So I stopped going to church. Life wasn't better. As a matter of fact it was worse than I could imagine. I had to go back to my roots and eat a lot of humble pie. I decided to read the Book of Mormon all the way through since I had yet to do it. One night as I was reading and thinking about the teachings of Jesus I felt the intense presense of the Holy Ghost. I knew at that moment, beyond any doubt, that the Book of Mormon was the true word of God. I sat there and cried like I'd never cried before. The Gospel is true. There was a plan for our lives! Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Redeemer. From then on I have never been ashamed or wanted to be apart of any other belief. I am a Mormon because I know that this is the way home to my Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

I am a leader to girls age 8-11. We teach them to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ and lead a moral life. Our activities promote developing their talents and serving their family and community. I dearly love each evening I get to spend with them. I also visit three ladies from church each month. My partner and I have become great friends as we make these visits. We always bring a treat and a spiritual lesson. It's been a great way for me to get to know others at church.

What is the priesthood?

The priesthood is power given to men to act in God's behalf. Only those who are spiritually worthy can be given the priesthood. Show more Show less

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

The temple is a sacred place today just like it was in biblical times. There are restrictions for attending the temple to maintain it's sanctity. It is a place to feel spiritual and make covenants or promises to God. Just like your home we don't let just anyone in. You must be a member of the church, be living a righteous life and have disussed your standard of living with local church leaders. There isn't anything "secretive" going on, just special and we want to keep it that way. Marriages are performed and sealed for time and all eternity and there are baptisms and other work done for our relatives who have died. Show more Show less

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

The act of homosexuality is a sin. We are very "family" focused. Families are created between a woman and a man. Children are not created any other way and that's god's plan. We do not hate any one who has made the choice to practice homosexuality. I have had many friends who have chosen that lifestyle. I love them, but do not support their sin. Show more Show less
