Hi I'm Tyson Stevens

I am a child of God. I'm a Bboy and all-styles dancer. I'm a music producer. I'm an artist. I'm a marketer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a wife and three kids. I love my wife. I love my kids. I'm a Bboy (breakdancer) and I produce and compose different styles of music. I love drawing graffiti (favorite is hand-styles). I have been break-dancing for almost 20 years and have sustained multiple injuries which have hindered me from pursuing it as a career - although I have danced in some major events, most recently a Lindsey Stirling video called Transcendence Orchestral. I'm a self-proclaimed singer-songwriter. I was part of a band called Love You Long Time (2004-2009). We were "almost famous." Two of our songs were featured on MTV's The Real World. We played a few spots at the Van's Warped Tour. We also played with a ton of Major Label bands. It was fun and worth it. I started wrestling when I was four years old but had to quit at 23 because of 17 concussions and an easily dislocating shoulder. I love the sport. I help my brother and father coach a high school wrestling team.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents raised me in the LDS church. I followed their example. When I was 16 years old, I started wondering if the LDS church was true. I thought, "If it's not true, then why would I live it's teachings when I could be doing more 'fun' stuff?" There came a point when I had a very strong desire to know which path I should take. I believed that the teachings of the church were true, but that didn't seem enough - I wanted to know if they were true or not. I had been taught by the Church and by the Book of Mormon that, in order to know the truth, I could ask God and he would let me know. I decided that the only way I could know for sure was by asking God. I applied the teachings, asked God (over a course of seven nights), and got an answer. My answer came as a feeling to my heart and as thoughts in my mind. I felt the thought of God being my Heavenly Father. I felt the thought of Jesus being the Christ. I felt the thought of Joseph Smith being a prophet, the Book of Mormon being true, and that the LDS church was God's church. The feeling was a confidence, a peace, and an overwhelming joy. To this day, I cannot deny the feelings and thoughts that the Holy Ghost put into my being that day. I continue to follow Jesus Christ within his Church because God let me know that it is His church. The teachings bring joy into my life and the Holy Ghost continues to testify of the validity of my faith and the validity of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I also know that I cannot do anything without Christ. Without him, I can do nothing. Because of him, I am able to change and find confidence in myself. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is where I go to learn of Christ and how to find happiness and peace. It is also a place where I find comfort and great people who are also striving to live as Christ would have us live. I love being a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I work with and teach the young men in the ward where I attend church. I love these little guys and they teach me a lot about myself and about the gospel. I am in the Young Men's presidency, which means that I work with youth ages 12-18. I love talking about Christ, his gospel and church. I strive to keep the commandments and be like Christ. My brother was diagnosed with terminal cancer in March 2014 and was given about a month to live. Melanoma had spread to his lungs, liver and brain. Once I found out, I turned to the Lord and his temple for comfort and faith. Because of the good influence my brother has had in his profession and throughout his life, the news of his situation spread quickly. The love and outreach we received as a family has been overwhelming. The community pulled together with fundraisers, fasts, love, emails and kind words. He is a husband with four children - three boys eight and under, and one, one-year old girl. I moved in with my brother's family when he was diagnosed. I have had the privilege of helping care for his kids and his house while he has gone through radiation and chemo. One main reason that I moved in was to be a provider of priesthood blessings in my brother's time of need. It has been a great blessing to me and to his family. I am grateful for the priesthood. It has helped him in his healing. The Lord is healing my brother and we have seen so many miracles. He is still going strong and we can see the Lord healing him. The doctors are amazed. I know that the Lord is in the details of this situation. This has been bigger than myself and bigger than my brother. So much good has come of this. My brother has been a great tool for building faith in my family and across the world. His, his wife's, and his children's faith have shone brightly throughout this trial. -- updated Sept. 9, 2014 Feb. 26, 2017 Update: My brother's brain, liver, and lung tumors are all stagnant and not growing. There have been many miracles since.

What is the First Vision?

Tyson Stevens
Joseph Smith grew up in an area where religion was often discussed. There were a lot of churches popping up proclaiming to teach the word of God and be His true church. Joseph Smith felt confused about which religion was true or if any were true. During this time of being confused, he read a scripture from the bible which said, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5). Joseph Smith realized that he did lack wisdom and felt that he could and should ask God for wisdom--the truth about which church was true. In the Spring of 1820, Joseph decided to actually pray, out loud and ask God which of all the churches were true. He went to a grove not too far from his home, knelt down and prayed out loud. While praying, Joseph was visited by God the Father and Jesus Christ His son. Joseph wrote: “When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!” Joseph received an answer to his prayer. He was told to join none of the churches at that time for they held neither the power nor authority of God. This visitation marked the first of many heavenly visits. It was the beginning of the Restoration of Jesus Christ's Church to the earth. Show more Show less
