Hi I'm Eric Carruth

The best thing about my life is my wife and daughter. I study bioengineering, water ski, and I'm learning to surf. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been married for 2 years. My wife and I are new parents to our baby girl. I'm a graduate student in bioengineering, so life is pretty busy. But when I do have some free time I like to spend it with my family, surf or water ski. I just love being in the water. I also enjoy cycling, running and ultimate frisbee. Talking to others about my beliefs is fun for me, and I love answering questions about the Church! I served as a missionary in Ukraine, so I speak Russian too! Being Mormon rocks!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into an active LDS family. My parents took me and my sisters to Church with them each week. But the reason I continue to go to Church is because I know it's the only Church that has the full truth. I had heard growing up that each person can read and pray about the Book of Mormon to ask God if it's true. When I was 14, I did just that. When I prayed, I didn't receive what most people would call a magnificent answer from God, but to me that's exactly what it was, even though it was quiet. I felt calm, peaceful, and loved. I had the thought "You already know it's true". Since then, my testimony has been strengthened by living the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and I still know that it's true.

How I live my faith

The basic things I do to live my faith are: attend Church meetings on Sunday's, read and study the scriptures and pray daily, and focus on building a Christ-centered home for my family. We like reading scriptures and praying together as a family as well as individually. On top of all that, we make sure to keep all the commandments God has given, including the 10 commandments given to Moses. Doing these things consistently keeps harmony in our home and helps us work together as a family to be better individuals.

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Eric Carruth
They will tell you about how the Gospel of Jesus Christ has been preached many times since the creation of the world through Prophets - chosen men called of God to speak His words to the people. Many times, the people rejected those Prophets and their words, and fell into sin. Jesus Christ was sent to teach us His Gospel and to suffer and die for our sins, and then be resurrected for us as well. However, people once again rejected His teachings. In the early 1800's, God restored the truth again to the earth through yet another Prophet - Joseph Smith. The missionaries will teach about the Plan of our Heavenly Father - why we're here, where we're from, where we're going after death. They'll teach how to live according to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and how to come to know for yourself that it's true. Show more Show less
