Hi I'm Rich

Grew up in Utah. Married my high-school sweetheart. Five kids. I enjoy reading and running. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a dad to five kids. My wife and I both work full-time. As a family, we enjoy movies, amusement parks, and musical theater. My wife and I both became interested in running over the past couple of years and spend a fair amount of time in that. I enjoy reading classic literature and history/biography. I work as a software developer but am less of a techie than most that I work with. I enjoy spending time with extended family. I like setting goals for self-improvement even though I fail to achieve them more often than not.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm not what one would call a "diverse" Mormon. I'm white, was born in Utah, and my ancestors on all sides have been members of the LDS Church for generations. That being said, I feel that I have experienced a conversion just like anyone who has joined the church. Despite perceptions that "Mormons just believe", I consider myself an intelligent and analytical person. I'm a Mormon because I believe in its doctrines, but also because I believe that Mormonism allows for differences of opinion and different perspectives. I'm a Mormon because of spiritual experiences I've had that make me feel closer to God. I'm a Mormon because being a Mormon encourages me to live the best life I can here in mortality and gives me hope that I can spend eternity with my family in the future.

How I live my faith

Mormonism teaches that this life is a time to develop our God-like characteristics by following the example of His son, Jesus Christ so that through Christ's Atonement, we may be worthy to live with Him again. I try to live accordingly, learning and developing patience, pure love, forgiveness, magnanimity, selflessness while passing through the trials that are part of this existence. I try to acquire as much knowledge as I can because I believe that the glory of God is intelligence. I love my family. I try to be a good husband and father. I try to be kind to others. Within the church, I serve as a hometeacher, visiting two families once a month to check on their needs and present a spiritual message and to just be a friend. I teach an adult Sunday School class.
