Hi I'm Tonya!

I like piano, exercise, and family time. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am married to the man of my dreams and we have two wonderful daughters! I graduated college studying Spanish Translation, but currently I am staying at home being a mom. I love it! Giving up a career in favor of staying at home to be a mom is maybe a strain on us financially because my husband was in school and now is starting his own business, but my faith in Jesus Christ gives me the assurance that things will work out. And they have! Also, since my husband is busy with work it's sometimes hard to balance our lives, but the gospel of Jesus Christ provides us the peace and direction we need to be a unified and happy family. Besides just hanging out with my husband and the girls, I also love soccer, basketball, tennis, piano and music, foreign languages, mountains, stars, and anything outdoors (besides spiders or bugs that get on me!).

Why I am a Mormon

I began to learn about the LDS Church from a young age since my parents are members, and I was baptized when I was eight. When I was a teenager I began to seriously consider what it is that I really believe, and I began to think that since all religions teach people to be good, there is not one true path. However, through the years as I continued to learn at church, keep the commandments, study the scriptures and especially the Book of Mormon, and pray to know if all of it was Jesus Christ's true and complete gospel, the Holy Spirit told me through peaceful feelings and countless personal experiences that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord's true church. I always wanted to find and follow the truth, and I have found it in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am happier being a Mormon than I ever would be otherwise, because with the fulness of the gospel in this church I understand Heavenly Father's plan of happiness for me and all of his children on the earth.

How I live my faith

I think praying daily to Heavenly Father and constantly trying to do what the Holy Spirit prompts me to do are the greatest ways I live my faith--the Holy Ghost helps me make important life decisions and also guides me to serve others and be a good wife, mom, neighbor, youth leader, person on a daily basis. In order to be worthy to have the Spirit guide me, I try to obey Heavenly Father's commandments. One of the commandments we learn about is keeping the Sabbath day holy--the Sabbath day is Sunday, and on this day we go to church. Currently I spend the class time at church serving as a volunteer with the youth. I try to rely on the Holy Ghost to guide me for how best to teach and serve the young women so they can develop their own convictions about Jesus Christ and His gospel.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

God is the literal father of our spirits and lives in heaven, which is why we call him Heavenly Father. He has a body just like ours, only it's been perfected and he can't die. He is very loving and cares about every single one of his children, and is involved in all of our lives--he often shows us his love through the service of people around us. Show more Show less
