Hi I'm Matt

I love my wife, I ski, and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I was adopted as a baby and grew up loving my family, friends, and sports. Skiing's my favorite, and I love soccer and basketball too. Now I'm married, a college grad, and a father, working as a seminary teacher and working on my masters degree. The best days end with my wife and me relaxing with good burgers and a great movie.

Why I am a Mormon

My goal is to live with my Heavenly Parents and with my family forever. I believe that the grace of Christ is the power to get me there. Living the gospel as taught in the Church continually helps me access that power for everyday and eternal help. I'm happier when I follow the prophet's guidance and what I learn in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I read the Book of Mormon and prayed to know if it is true when I was a teenager, and found out that it is. And the more I've wrestled with difficult questions the more the Lord helps me understand His word and His will.

How I live my faith

I live by the words of the prophets, both ancient and modern, and seek and follow personal guidance from God. My goal this year is to really focus on the most important things--loving God and loving others. I try to recognize and follow-up on opportunities to bless the lives of people around me. In my ward I serve a counselor to our bishop, so I help plan our sacrament meetings and help the leaders of our ward's Sunday Schools (children, youth, and adult) in their responsibilities. I also help plan ward events and assist the bishop with finances and other administrative responsibilities.

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

Truth seekers! When you seek truth, the Lord guides you. Show more Show less

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

I love the Bible! This year my scripture goal is to read all of the scriptures--Old Testament, New Testament, Book of Mormon, etc. We needed the Restoration because without prophets and priesthood authority around, doctrines get changed and corrupted. Prophets keep the doctrine pure and clear. With prophets we aren't left to wonder and theorize about controversial doctrines -- we know! The priesthood is the authority needed to baptize like the ancient apostles did and to seal families together forever. This is Christ's church, not anyone else's. Show more Show less

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

I always wear a suit and and tie at church. Dressing nice for church shows the Lord how I feel about church and it helps me take it more seriously and learn more. We sure do celebrate holidays! Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Halloween, 4th of July, birthdays -- you name it, I love it! Show more Show less

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

The temple is amazing! Thats where my wife and I were married for time and all eternity and continue to learn about God's plan. Just like we have to qualify ourselves to live in God's presence after we die, we need to qualify ourselves to go into His house here on earth. Show more Show less
