Hi I'm Bentley

I'm a businessman, an outdoorsman, a father and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a 51 year old father and have been married to my wonderful wife for 30 years. We have 3 sons and 1 daughter, 3 daughters-in-law, a granddaughter and are now expecting 3 more grandchildren. I'm a financial adviser by profession specializing in working with seniors and their families. My wife and I have a small "gentleman's" farm in the north-east where we raise horses, ponies and miniature donkeys. We love living in the country. Our kids are all grown up and have moved out, so the two of us enjoy working the farm together, traveling to see our kids and enjoy traveling to visit other parts of this beautiful world that we have been blessed with. And of course, we volunteer our time to our church service and to help those that have special needs.

Why I am a Mormon

As in most families, I followed the faith of my parents, which gave me a wonderful base of morality and good Christian principals, but as I have learned, that was only an introduction. When I was in my early 20's with a new wife and young children and all the responsibilities that go with that, my faith was tested. I came to a point where I had to find out for myself the meaning of my life and what it was I believed in. Through a series of life events, and with the loving support of my wife, I did what the scriptures have invited us to do; to ask of God, in faith, having real intent to know the truth. It didn't happen all at once, but I soon realized that God had a plan for His children and that I was a part of his plan; that I am His son and Jesus Christ is my brother who sacrificed all so that I could live with my Father again. The knowledge of His plan and my role in it gives me great comfort, gives my life purpose and gives me a sense of peace, just like he promised it would.

How I live my faith

To me, living my faith is two fold: 1 - Living my faith has to do with what kind of person I am becoming. I believe that good Christian principals help us become better people. If I can continue to learn Christ's teachings and work each day to try to become more like Him, then how I am in my everyday life is how I live my faith. 2 - In my church service, I function at many levels. As a priesthood leader, I help organize activities for singles, I direct the genealogy centers in our area and a regional employment center. I also manage the finances of the many congregations in our area. On a more individual level, I have been asked to take a special interest in several families that have had financial or marital hardships and some that have significant health problems. I bring messages of hope, fix cars, move furniture and help with emotional support when ever I can.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Yes, we believe that the Bible is sacred text and is the word of God. I believe that the Bible is a history of the people that lived in and around what is today Israel. It details their life challenges and how God was able to teach them, through Prophets, what he expected of them and of us, his children. But I also believe that other people lived in the earth, and that God loved them just as much. That's what makes the Book of Mormon a companion scripture to the Bible. The Book of Mormon is the history of a different group of people, that was also taught the word of God by prophets. Show more Show less
