Hi I'm Matt

I'm a fly fishing enthusiast from Idaho! I love to hike & backpack! I enjoy time with my wife and four boys! I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I grew up in Idaho and currently live in California with my beautiful wife and four energetic boys. I'm a CPA and work for a private hydraulic company in the Bay Area. I love to spend time in the great outdoors. Growing up hunting and fishing in Idaho, I brought that love to California and have extended it to backpacking and hiking in the beautiful Sierra's of northern California.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church and was baptized when I was eight. My mom was also a life long member of the church, but my dad was a convert to the church when he was in his 20's. As I grew there were a handful of experiences where I felt the spirit and love of the Lord. One defining moment was when I was 16 yrs old. A couple months before my 17th birthday my mom died. At this time and subsequent months and years I needed to start relying on my own testimony. Did I have one? What did I believe? How would I survive? These answers and more came little by little as I gained an understanding of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and grew my testimony that He truly was my Savior. Not just a story I heard in church or at home. But he truly was and is my Savior! He was Resurrected and lives today. Because of this my mom will live again with a perfect body! From that moment I continued to prepare for service in the church. When I was 19 I served a mission in Arizona, USA. I was able to share my testimony of the Savior. I was able to learn, teach, and testify of the Restoration of the church through the Prophet Joseph Smith. After I got home I met my beautiful wife. We were married in the House of Lord, one of the Temples of the church, not just for time, but for all eternity. My sweetheart and boys are what we call "Sealed" to me for eternity. If we all live righteously (not perfect, but try our best and always repent) we will be an eternal family. This is what gave me hope and helped me endure with my mom's death. I am sealed to her and my dad. I will be with them again!! I testify that Jesus is the Christ, my Redeemer and Savior. He Lives!! He called Joseph Smith to be His Prophet and restore the gospel and His church again to the earth. Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon. It is true! I love this gospel and know it brings peace and joy through our trials and challenges!

How I live my faith

In our church there are numerous opportunities to serve others. Some I currently enjoy doing are what's called Home Teaching, an opportunity I have to visit members of my church on a monthly basis. Those are wonderful visits and opportunities to help if needed during the month. I enjoy working with the missionaries of my church as I help direct their efforts during the week. And I try and put the talent the Lord gave me and my mom helped blossom, in playing the organ at church. Serving others and the Lord is why I love this church and try to live my faith. In my life the most important way I can try to live my faith is in the walls of my own home. As a husband and father, although very inadequate, I try to be the best example of good and righteousness. There is no better place to live my faith then with my family. We attend church as a family. We study the scriptures every day as a family. We say prayers as a family. We spend time one day a week (usually Monday's) sharing a gospel message, singing, praying, and participating in a wholesome recreational activity. In our church this is called Family Home Evening.

What do Mormons believe happens to us after we die? What do Mormons believe about life after death?

Our spirits return to God who gave us life (In the Book of Mormon - The book of Alma, chapter 40). We go to the spirit world where we teach the gospel, are taught the gospel, and converse with friends and family who passed on before us. In the Spirit Word, we await the resurrection, where our body and spirit reunite, never to die again. This resurrection is possible because of the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. After the resurrection, we are brought before God to be Judged by our beliefs, thoughts, and most important our works while in this life. Show more Show less
