Hi I'm Keola

I'm a mother, musician, and English literature nut. Oh yeah, and i'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Keolanani Kawohikukapulani Kinghorn. That's right, my initials are KKK, but if you'll forgive me for that I promise we'll be best friends. I was raised and have spent most of the past 25 years of my life in Hawaii. My passions include music, reading, writing, baking, and learning.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church and I remember being asked before, "will you stay in the church when I leave home?" I remember saying, "probably." That word has haunted me since that time. I wish I had said, "Yes! Of course!" Because, I knew then what I knew now: The church is true. However, unlike my timid and embarrassed 15-year-old self, I am no longer afraid to tell others what I know is true, if they ask. The truth and the testimony of God that I have is the center of who I am, and it gives me purpose in life. It is why I chose to not date until I was 18. It is why I see my body as beautiful and sacred (and choose to treat it as such). It is why I chose to marry before I ever had sex. And, it gives me perspective and courage to focus on the importance of family and service in a world that is obsessed with oneself and money. Being a Mormon is not always easy, but it is SO worth it.

How I live my faith

The biggest way I live my faith is by taking care of my family. Although small (we have one child), we have an enormous amount of love for each other. I know that God loves my daughter and I can feel his help as I raise her. I also try to live my faith by attending church and fulfilling the callings I have been given to the best of my ability. That currently includes organizing and directing a ward choir. I put as much time and effort into this calling, as I would a job, even though I'm not paid, but doing so increases my faith, as well as my abilities.
