Hi I'm Kat S.

I am a college student from the Midwest and am pretty artsy. I am a Mormon!

About Me

I am in college, although I am taking a short-ish break to serve a mission. I was pretty sure I wanted to teach, but now I'm thinking about marine biology. I am pretty musical; I play several different instruments and I sing. I really like meeting new people and getting to know them!

Why I am a Mormon

This question didn't seem hard until I started thinking about it... I am a Mormon because of a lot of things, I guess. The largest of them being the feeling I get when I read the scriptures, listen to the prophets, and go to chuch. I just have this wonderful feeling of peace, and I know that when I pray, our Heavenly Father is listening.

How I live my faith

The biggest way that I live my faith is just by trying. I try my hardest to do what I know to be right, and to make the best decisions I can. I try to look for opportunities to serve others, and to follow the example of Christ.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

Kat S.
We believe that God is literally the father of our spirits. Because of this, we are all sons and daughters of God, which is also why we call each other "Brother so-and-so" or "Sister so-and-so." God loves each and every one of us, and He knows us all individually. He knows exactly who we are, what we are capable of, and He knows our triumphs and struggles. He is very kind and compassionate, but, like any father, He knows that we must learn things for ourselves--which is why we are here and why some things we must experience are difficult. Each experience, good or bad, shapes us into who we are today. Show more Show less

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Kat S.
We have been given a commandment by God to pay "tithing." Tithing is ten percent of our income. We pay tithing not only because it is a commandment and not because God needs the money, but because it is a way for us to demonstrate our faith. By putting the Lord first, by paying our tithing before anything else, He will help make sure that our needs are met. Show more Show less

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

Kat S.
The activities of Mormon missionaries are funded from a variety of ways. The primary being the missionary him/herself and his/her own family. Prospective missionaries often will save money from part-time jobs while still in school, or a full-time job if they are not in school. Missionaries can also receive financial support from members of their home town. Saving for a mission is similar to saving for a car, in that the 'owner' is more likely to treasure and take care of it if he/she has worked and saved for it by him/herself; however, we do recognize that there may be extenuating circumstances in play, and those are taken into consideration on a case-by-case basis.
