Hi I'm Lilianne

About Me

I'm a sister to seven siblings, a wife to John, mother to John and Kate and grandmother to seven beautiful grandchildren. I love life and choose to be happy. I enjoy handcrafts and in my lifetime I've had many occupations but those I loved most were in the medical fields. Later because of a spinal injury I retrained in computers and now they are a big love of mine. I love people, places, and animals.

Why I am a Mormon

I started my life in the Church of England although was then taken to the Methodist church before I was old enough to learn anything. I went to the Methodist church until I was 10 and then my Mother wanted to become a Catholic because my Dad already was so off we went to the Catholic church. I eventually stopped going to church as an adult after I married and the reason was that I was not getting answers to questions I had. I was a couple of years not at church at all then when I was pregnant with our second child, I was hospitalised for the last three months and we needed daytime foster care for our son who was only 15 months old. The hospital found a carer for him but he fretted there and I worried about him. They found another carer and immediately the carer and child bonded. The lady was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or what you hear of as Mormons. I asked her a great many questions about her faith and finally we met with the Missionaries who came to our house and spent an hour teaching us a few things and answering my questions. The question I had the most difficulty with was: Why must innocent little children be baptised when they have never known wrong? The Missionaries told us that in this church children are not baptised until they are 8 years old because before then they often dont understand right or wrong or at least the implications of choices as such. I asked many more questions and the more I asked, learnt and read the more I wanted to embrace this and live it to the best of my ability. I strive constantly to do that because I know this church is true. The best way I can explain to you how I know it is true is to simply say that I can feel it in my heart and I have really good feelings associated with going to church and fellowshipping with the other people there. Why not give it a try, youu have nothing to lose.

How I live my faith

I'm currently serving a mission as a support missionary in the family history department. I'm a member of a ladies group at church and on Sundays we meet at church and discuss things from a woman's point of view. It really helps to get the other ladies ideas on things. I have spent a lot of time teaching the little ones and watching them learn and understand things and I love it when they get together and sing the childrens hymns: They put so much feeling into that. I love going to church.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Mormon's help any person who needs their help providing they are in a position to help. Help is perceived in many ways but the way we see it is that help should be something worthwhile for the individual receiving the help. For example if a friend had no money to buy food I would have two choices. I could give them money to buy the food or I could buy it for them. If I give them money to buy the food can I be sure they will not gamble the money. Better than that would be for me to go shopping with them and spend the amount of money I want to give to buy the foods that they will eat. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

We believe the Bible to be the word of God so far as it is translated correctly, we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God so if we believe in God as we do then it follows we want to know what he has to say so that we can follow it. Show more Show less

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

I love going to church. We have a meeting which we call Sacrament Meeting. That's where we take the sacrament, we listen to speakers talking about different aspects of the gospel and we sing hymns. I love it when visitors come to church and I try to go and speak to them to make them feel welcome. Usually they are with the missionaries so it is easy to tell the new people but I try to speak with those I don't know anyway. Anyone can attend church as long as they want to be there. You could come to church. You might enjoy it and find some answers that you are looking for. I did. Show more Show less
