Hi I'm Rey Octavio

About Me

I am a happy husband of a family that unfortunately does not have children. My wife and I are trying to adopt and although it is a hard road to go through, it is for sure rewarding. I am a Respiratory Therapist and work mostly night shifts at a Regional Hospital. I love my job and lob helping people breath. I graduated not too long ago with a Bachelors degree in Respiratory and am hoping to work on masters degree in the near future. I love to watch movies with my wife either at the theater or at home. I love to sing and love to play the piano. I was born and raised in Mexico and moved to the US to obtain an education in 2005. I like hiking, fishing, hunting, eating, reading good books, watching educational films (mostly nature related), love cars and most important love my wife and family. They are my priority.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family that was already an LDS family but not for very long, maybe two years. My parent were Catholic and converted into the church after a long struggle that took them almost to divorce due to bad habits from both of my parents. My parents conversion story to the church and their life changing experiences have helped me establish my faith in the LDS church. It was my parents that planted the seed of mormonism into my life, but i had to nurture it and make it grow, then taste it and find out if it was good or not. I struggled with life in a way that to some point in my life i had to find something that would put my family into a priority and help me have a strong faith in Jesus Christ. I studied the scriptures and found out there is certain qualifications that His church is supposed to have. I found those qualifications in the Latter Day Saint faith and since then I have been a faithful member of it. I am a Mormon because i know that this church is the only church that has the principles established by the Savior himself while he was on earth, I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and that together with the Bible we can find the principles that we need to gain happiness in this life.

How I live my faith

I've had different assignments in the church and have always loved to serve and help others. It is rewarding to see how you can be an influence in the life of a person by who you are or what you do. I have served in the church as a leader to the Young men, as a Ward missionary, I served a two year mission in Chiapas and Tabasco and it was one of the most rewarding experiences I've had. I have also worked close to the missionaries of the church organizing the work in the different areas they have. I as of now help teaching the youth, young men from ages 13-14 and help them be prepared for what the world had to offer. I help also organize activities for the youth that will help them stay focused in what matters most and also help them to learn to be self sufficient and establish a strong faith in their Savior.

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

Rey Octavio
All activities are funded by the missionaries themselves, their families or other donors, but utilizing the Church's financial services to administer them in an organized fair manner. Show more Show less

Why do you have 12 Apostles? They were just meant to be around for the time of Jesus Christ, not to be replaced with new apostles.

Rey Octavio
It is certainly true that they were not to be replaced when Jesus was on the earth because He is the one that selected them. He ordained them to the apostleship and gave them commands. Jesus Christ set the example on how His church should be established on the earth and so we follow His example of His church model by having apostles. He called 12 apostles to organize and help gather the 12 tribes of Israel. When Christ was crucified and resurrected, his teachings were not killed with him and hence we need to follow them. If we go to the scriptures, the church of God started to become corrupted after the apostles were all killed. To reestablish his church, it has to be reestablished or restored the same way He taught it should be established. Show more Show less
