Hi I'm Marilyn

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a student, a photographer, a wanna-be graphic designer, a lover of all things beautiful, modern, and vintage, I know...kind of oxy-moronic, but there you have it!...and the list goes on. :)

Why I am a Mormon

Because the church is true. It's just that simple. Its either true or its not and its up to each and every one of us to pray and come to a conclusion. When I was 19 years old, I was living 100's of miles from my family and decided I needed to form my own conclusion on the truthfulness of the gospel. I prayed about it. And while the clouds didn't part and angels didn't start singing...I felt a sweet peace surround me and I felt the knowledge of its truthfulness burn in my heart. Since that time, it has been manifested to me in so many ways. The church is true. The Savior lives. Jesus Christ died for me. Individually. He was resurrected and He lives. We have a loving Father in Heaven who cares about us. We are His children.

How I live my faith

Every day through the little things. Through teaching my daughter the mission of the Savior. Through reading my scriptures daily and prayer. By simply following the teachings of the prophets in the scriptures and living day prophets who lead and guide us. By getting out and doing my visiting teaching to show the sisters that I visit how treasured they are as daughters of our Heavenly Father. And by preparing my lessons I teach for the sisters in my ward as prayerfully as I can to ensure that the message that is taught is one that will inspire.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Mormon women are just like everyone else! We work, we go to school, we serve in school and civic governments, we marry, we have families, we have to learn to balance family, work, school, and every concern that other women have. We absolutely believe in equality between men and women. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people claim Mormon women are "lesser" than their male counter-parts. That is so not true! We work together as equals. If anything, the teachings of the church teach men to revere women and womanhood. One of my favorite quotes came from the late President Gordan B Hinckley. It says: "Woman is God’s supreme creation. Only after the earth had been formed, after the day had been separated from the night, after the waters had been divided from the land, after vegetation and animal life had been created, and after man had been placed on the earth, was woman created; and only then was the work pronounced complete and good. Of all the creations of the Almighty, there is none more beautiful, none more inspiring than a lovely daughter of God who walks in virtue with an understanding of why she should do so, who honors and respects her body as a thing sacred and divine, who cultivates her mind and constantly enlarges the horizon of her understanding, who nurtures her spirit with everlasting truth. God will hold us accountable if we neglect His daughters. He has given us a great and compelling trust. May we be faithful to that trust." Show more Show less

What are some things that tell to you there is a God?

Everything around me. I have taken several science classes. In my opinion...nothing will draw you closer to God than learning more about our species and our world. The complex intricacies of the human body...how our hearts work, how our blood travels, everything...was manufactured by someone. We in no way were just created. When I watch my daughter grow and develop it proves to me that there is a God. Every time I pray and get an answer to my prayer...it proves to me that there is a God. There is someone out there listening. There is someone on the other end just waiting to hold me and empathize with me. Show more Show less

What is faith?

Faith is a belief in something you can't see. You can't see air...but you know that it is there. Show more Show less
