Hi I'm Thora

I'm a Mom, a childcare giver, and an artist. Primarily, I'm a Daughter of God.

About Me

When people ask my hobbies I usually say something like "I CANNOT bake, garden, or get jello to set." Otherwise, you'd never know that I'm nervous when I try new things. I seem to do a bit of everything. I sing, dance, sculpt, sew, draw, paint, write, work with wood, and when the kids move out I might have the time for that welding class I've always wanted to take.

Why I am a Mormon

People think that just because I was born as a member of this Church that means I just follow blindly because it's easier that way, but nothing could be further from the truth. This isn't a passive religion. The world constantly challenges us about our beliefs, and growing up I had many opportunities to ask questions and get real answers from the best source, The Lord. The witness of the Spirit has confirmed to me time and again, in a way that I cannot deny that this is the truth, that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior, that this is HIS Church and HIS Gospel. I hunger to learn ever more about Him and His plan for us, but I also feel peace beyond description that I am on the path He wants me on.

How I live my faith

I work with the women at church. I plan meetings where we learn things, things about the world, things like talents and skills, and things like how wonderful we each are in Heavenly Father's eyes. I love working with my Sisters, I love learning from them and learning to love them.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

When people ask me if Mormon women are equals to the men I just have to smile, because sometimes I feel really sorry for the men that they don't get to be us. Men and Women are equal, in rank, in importance, in their vital roles in God's plan for his children. They are called to different roles, have different basic responsibilities, but they are equal in the eyes of God and the Church. Show more Show less

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

Thomas S. Monson. I've known in my heart he was a prophet since I was a little girl. He came to speak in the town where I grew up, and listening to him I could just feel the Spirit filling the room. We sustain all of our First Presidency and all of our Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as Prophets, Seers, and Revelators. That's 15 prophets. President Monson leads us at the head of them, but God has a great support system in place for him. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

No. We certainly think he was special and love him, but we don't worship him. He was a Prophet, like Moses or Abraham in the Bible. Show more Show less
