Hi I'm Erik

I'm a husband, father of three, a university professor, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married for over a decade to my best friend and the love of my life. We have three beautiful children. As a professor at a major university, I teach future hospital and public health administrators while researching ways to help collaborative health initiatives work better. I am a family therapist in private practice and also have a small consulting practice. I am a huge football fan and love watching games with my wife (who might just be a bigger football fan than I am). I like to tinker with projects around the house and am an amateur gardener. I like to hike and camp, and love swimming, especially with my children. I enjoy reading as much as I enjoy action movies. Above all, I'm always trying to learn something new - up next is bottling my own root beer and finally learning to play the guitar.

Why I am a Mormon

People of faith everywhere share beliefs that unify us more than they divide us. However, there are specific beliefs I have as a Mormon that are critical to my faith. I believe that Christ's church and the fullness of His Gospel have been restored to the earth after the apostasy prophesied by the Apostle Paul in the New Testament. The authority to lead His Church, which was lost when the original apostles were killed, has been given again to prophets and apostles in our day. Through that authority, families can be married for time and for all eternity. There is no "til death do you part" in the gospel of Jesus Christ. And those prophets and apostles lead and guide us through revelation from Our Heavenly Father for us in these days. The heavens are not closed and neither are the scriptures. I testify that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and a perfect companion to the Bible. God lives and loves us. Christ is His Son and our Savior.

How I live my faith

I strive to live my life as a disciple of Jesus Christ. To me, that means being full of faith, hope, and charity, and laboring to have a "peaceable walk" with my fellowman. That also means I repent when I am wrong and try and do better each day. I believe in a better world now through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
