Hi I'm Joseph

I speak six languages, am a chemist, a teacher, and a stay-at-home Dad. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a stay at-home father to three beautiful children. I love playing basketball, ultimate frisbee, football, and trivia. I also enjoy traveling the world with my family and speaking foreign languages (Spanish, French, Ukrainian, Russian, Norwegian, Sign, and English). I love thinking: asking hard questions and listening to answers. Before having children, I was a high school mathematics and physics teacher. I will probably return in the future, but am much too busy volunteering in preschool activities right now. :)

Why I am a Mormon

My Dad always told me "Truth is out there; you just have to find it." I grew up without much of an understanding of any religion so I dabbled in learning about all of them. I visited many churches and traveled to many far-off lands. Many times, I literally ran into Mormon missionaries --in Costa Rica, England, away at college, and even at my high school. I started to connect the dots that there was some higher design and organization to the chaos of my life. When I agreed to listen to the missionaries teach me and was willing to do so with an open heart, I was forever changed.

How I live my faith

I do the best I can. I feel the "good news" of Jesus Christ in my heart and smile every day. After I became a Mormon, I graduated college and went to Ukraine for two years to be a missionary. That was so awesome! I saw people overcome very strong addictions by praying and asking God for help. Now I wake up early in the morning and teach high schoolers religion. There is no better way to start a day than with a prayer and opening the Bible to learn of God's love and mercy for us. I then spend the rest of my day taking care of my 3 kids while my wife goes to work. Being able to play and teach my kids is very powerful--but a harder job than I expected!

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Yes! We love the Bible and study it. In fact, I teach a course on the Old Testament for a full year and then a course on the New Testament to our youth. Those two years are followed by one year of study of the Book of Mormon. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

It is a wonderful opportunity to share the Good News. I am so happy that I ran into missionaries over and over again as I traveled around the world. They always had the same message and it was truth. It was an honor for me to get to return the favor and share the message of joy and peace with others. Show more Show less
