Hi I'm Bryant

I grew up in the great Pacific Northwest. I am an orthopaedic surgeon and serve on active duty in the US Army. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My fantastic and extremely adorable wife and I have been blessed with 8 terrific children, 4 sons and 4 daughters. Our oldest just started college and our youngest just recently wore her last diaper. Except for a brief respite there have been dirty diapers in our home for 18 years +. I most enjoy participating in whatever activities the kids are involved in - the outdoors, sports, good books, and music. I have been a leader in my sons' boy scout troop and enjoy hiking, camping, skiing, and snowshoeing the Cascades and Olympic peninsula with them. I have lived in Italy, Iraq, Korea, Washington DC, and Cincinnati and have loved each unique location. It has been great coming back home to Washington state.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents taught me how to pray, and the importance of living the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ since I was a little boy. When I was a teenager I decided to read the Book of Mormon all the way through - cover to cover. I asked God if it was true and he answered through the spirit that it was. I knew that it was true! I decided for myself then that I would act on what I knew to be true and live my life according to the Gospel. I have read the Book of Mormon over and over many times since. We continue to read it almost daily as a family as well. Reading it inspires me to be a better husband, a better dad, and to try harder to be like Jesus. Reading it as a family brings a tremendous spirit of peace and love in our home as well. I especially love how the Book of Mormon teaches of the great miracle of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and how this miracle can be applied in our lives. My prayers to God regarding the Book of Mormon's origin and its truthfulness have been answered. It does come from God. God does speak to His children today both individually in answer to prayer and to His church collectively through a living prophet. Knowledge of these things keeps me focused on the things that are most important in this life. There is a reason I am here. There are things God has for me to do. He wants me and all of His children to come home.

How I live my faith

Until recently I have been responsible for the spiritual growth and development of the more than forty 12 - 18 year old teenage boys in our congregation. It has brought me great satisfaction to see their leadership skills develop and their faith in Christ grow strong. Along with several other adult leaders I help the young men prepare to be great husbands and fathers, as well as leaders in school, in their community, and in the church. My schedule is pretty busy at work and at home, so it helps that 3 of my sons are 16, 14, and 12 years old. Our congregation sponsors a Boy Scout Troop - so we spend a lot of time hiking, and camping. I have been greatly blessed as I have served in the church in whatever assignment I have been given. Previously I have had multiple other assignments (or callings) such as being the leader of a congregation, and being the leader of multiple congregations. Each assignment has brought me and my family many opportunities for growth and blessings. Recently I was called as the bishop of our ward. I am now responsible for the temporal and spiritual well being of all the members of the ward. We have a lay clergy in the church, so there are many other members of the ward who are called to positions of leadership and service to help our congregation flourish. I pray many times a day for guidance and direction from the Lord and do my best to follow the impressions I feel from the Holy Spirit.
