Hi I'm Scott

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a husband, a father, a family physician, and I'm a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

To me the question should be "Why am I still a Mormon?" I was born into a family that were already members of the Mormon faith. As I left home, I had to make a decision if I was still going to practice the religion of my youth. I did a lot of soul searching and reading about other religions. But most importantly I relied on prayer to ask God what was true and right. Through that experience I know that this is God's church on earth, led by a prophet as in the ancient biblical times A prophet that is a mouthpiece of God for our day. This is so essential. We live in a time where evil has greater power to be around us. With the ease of the internet and the magnitude of entertainment to monopolize our time, it is essential to have a modern voice warn and counsel us about God's will for us in our day.

How I live my faith

One thing I know about God's true church is that it is a gospel of action. Christ invited the rich young man to sell all that he had and follow him. He hasn't asked that of all of us, but he does ask for our help. I am blessed to work with the youth of my congregation as part of my calling in the church. What a great responsibility I feel as a teacher of young minds who are searching to find their relationship with their Father in Heaven. Many times I have felt that I am the greater recipient of this calling as the youth show their strength and faith in God, and remind me frequently of the love that God has for each of us.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Building a relationship with my Father in Heaven has been a wonderful blessing in my life. Through studying the scriptures and modern day prophets words I have come to know the Character of God, and also that I am His son. I have found that my Father in Heaven is always willing to answer my prayers and comfort me during times of trial. In fact, I think that during hard times my relationship with God has grown the most. Not because God isn't there for me all the time, but because I wasn't looking for Him in my life. As I have struggled I find that my prayers are more sincere and that I am looking for the small miracles in my life that God blesses me with every day. Show more Show less

Why is it important for us to take care of our bodies? Why are our bodies called temples of God in the Bible?

Our bodies are a gift from God, and Paul wrote that we are the temple of God. With this great gift comes great responsibility. In my professional career as a doctor I daily get to counsel individuals on how to better care for their bodies. Through modern day prophets the Lord has revealed how we can better care for our earthly bodies. The Word of Wisdom teaches that we should avoid things that would harm our bodies and minds such as tobacco and alcohol, as well, it counsels us to take good things into our bodies in moderation such as grains and fruit. Some individual are born with underlying medical conditions, or suffer from unavoidable health problems, yet often I see patients health failing due to the effects of harmful choices that they have made in taking care of their bodies. Our father in heaven wants us to be happy and has asked us to take care of the gift of our bodies that he has given us. We will still have trials of illness in our lives and some of those trials might lead to our eventual departure from this life. But I know that as we respect and take care of our bodies we show our Heavenly Father our appreciation for the fleshly gift that he has bestowed to each of us. Show more Show less
