Hi I'm Dave

I grew up in Salt Lake City. I am married with three children. I recently went back to school to earn a PhD in English.

About Me

I grew up close to the mountains, so I love hiking and camping and anything outdoors. Sports was an important part of my life growing up, and I played college basketball as an undergraduate. In 2004 I earned a master's degree in English, only I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it. I spent the next several years working as a real estate agent, a technical writer, an instructional designer, and a college writing instructor. Eventually I decided I wanted to be a college professor. I am currently in graduate school working on a PhD in English.

Why I am a Mormon

This is a tough question to answer in one sentence or even one paragraph. I am a Mormon for many reasons. One, because I believe in Jesus Christ. Two, because many special people in my life are Mormon and I trust and admire their examples. Three, because the teachings of the Mormon church feel right and make sense to me. Fourth, because I have read the Book of Mormon and believe that it is a true account. Fifth, because living my faith gives me confidence and makes me feel closer to God. Those are a few of my reasons. There are others.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to follow Jesus Christ's example. Hopefully I am a better father and husband. Hopefully I spend less time thinking about myself and more time thinking about how I can help and serve others. The ward or congregation that I attend each Sunday sponsors a Boy Scout troop. My son isn't old enough to be a Boy Scout yet, but I volunteer each week with the troop as an assistant scout master. Sometimes it can be hard to find opportunities to help others. One thing I like about my church is that it gives me opportunities to do just that.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Yes, I do. Why would God call prophets anciently and not today? If God didn't call prophets today, than that would mean God has changed, that his manner of dealing with his children has changed. But God hasn't changed. He loves us and knows that we need His guidance. That is why he calls prophets today, as well as anciently. Show more Show less
