Hi I'm James

I'm married with four children. I'm a University Lecturer. I'm from Manchester in the United Kingdom. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 41 years old and I live in the North West of England. The most important thing about me is that I am married with four children who bring joy to my life. I was a secondary school RE teacher for 12 years before moving into my current role. I am a University Lecturer in Religious Education meaning that I train future RE and Primary school teachers. I hold a PhD in theology and enjoy reading science fiction and fantasy literature. My absolute favourite author is JRR Tolkien and I love exploring the religious themes in his works.

Why I am a Mormon

I know that God lives, I know that I have a loving Heavenly Father who loves me and I love him. I really am his Spirit son; he desires the best for me and answers my prayers as often as I ask. He is a benevolent and caring Father. I am grateful for the sacrifice of my Saviour Jesus Christ. Because Jesus died on the cross, I know I am able to be forgiven for the things that I do wrong. Even though I fall, I am able to pick myself back up again and through the love of my saviour carry on. As Jesus suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane, one of those drops of blood was sweat for me. To take advantage of this I need to accept Him as my Saviour and show my love for him and others. This means that through my life I should try my best to live my life in a good way to please him. Also that if I expect Jesus to forgive me I must forgive other people. I know that he did these things, not for personal gain, but because of the love He has for all of us. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet, that he did indeed see Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ on the early spring morning in 1820. That God was following his plan and calling a prophet to lead and guide the church and the world. I know that through him Jesus Christ was able to restore his Church and Gospel with all its authorities and truths. I know that the Book of Mormon is true, that it is the word of God, that by living its principles I can draw closer to my Saviour. By studying from its pages daily I am able to find a peace in my life, my home and I believe I become a better person. I know I can be with my family for eternity through the eternal love of my Saviour and Heavenly Father. I love them and my family beyond measure. I know I have a responsibility to serve, and to live my life better today than I did yesterday. In spite of all of my shortcomings the Saviour will make up the balance and enable me to find joy here in this life and in eternal life.

How I live my faith

My faith is central to my life. It informs my identity and the things that I choose to do. As an example as I teach my students I try and be the type of teacher I would like my children to have; I try and treat people with the love, hope and compassion that Jesus displayed. My church gives me an opportunity to do this as well, as I reach out and visit with other people. I served as a minister in my local congregation and really enjoyed the opportunity this gave me to work with people. I currently serve as the minister of my local Church and love to work with the youth of my Church on a Sunday and love to help them develop in their testimonies of the Saviour. I also help write lessons that can be used throughout the Church- this helps me recognise that the words of Christ and his prophets are for everybody throughout the world. Every aspect of my life is affected by my belief in Jesus Christ as my Saviour: the things I say; the films I watch; the music I listen to. I am who I am because of my faith.
