Hi I'm Deven

You guessed it... I'm a Mormon!

About Me

The truth is, most people would consider me kind of boring. I'm not especially handsome - please don't tell my wife - or especially gifted - again, keep it to yourself - but I wouldn't trade places with anyone else in the world. It may sound a little bit corny, but I love my family more than life itself and there is nothing I enjoy more than spending time with them. I've been married to my high school sweetheart for almost a decade now, and we have four fantastic kids. We love to spend our winters snow skiing in the mountains and our summers wake-surfing on the lake. I will go on the record admitting that I probably watch too much football in the fall. Most importantly, I know that I am a child of God. I consider Jesus Christ to be my closest and my finest friend, and that means I can hold my head high wherever I go.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church, but I don't think I fully understood what it means to "be a Mormon" until I was a teenager. It's a big commitment. No drugs, no alcohol, no smoking, no sex before marriage. It seemed to me at the time, that EVERYONE I knew was doing these things! I had always been a straight arrow, so to speak, but I decided that if I was going to remain faithful to what I had been taught, then It was important for me to know for myself that it was all true. I began by studying the scriptures with real intent. I paid special attention to how I felt as I read and pondered the word of God. I acted in faith, believing that God would hear and answer my prayers. I asked Him to help me understand and to know if the things that I had been taught my entire life were true. One day, as I sat reflecting on these things, the Spirit whispered to my heart and touched my soul with a peace and reassurance that words cannot describe. I have since found that God's commandments don't restrict us as much as they open the door for us to feel His love more fully and to understand what is truly important in life. He wants the best for us and has a plan for our happiness. I believe that plan of happiness, in its entirety, can be found in this church. That's why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I was taught from a very young age that our actions always speak louder than our words. With that thought in mind, I try to live my faith by DOING. A kind word. A simple smile. A helping hand. The reality is this - Doing good in this life is the only way to be truly happy. One way I try to live my faith is by volunteering in the community. I am the Scoutmaster of a local Boy Scout troop. I think the ideals and principles taught in Scouting align very closely with the practical teachings of the Savior. Do a good turn daily. Live a clean and virtuous life. Be prepared. It's a great honor for me to help these young men learn what it means to honor and respect God, country, their fellow man, and themselves.
