Hi I'm Doug

I'm studying dentistry. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small town in Utah amongst lots of sagebrush, tumble weeds, and lizards. I spent a few years in Washington DC and Maryland serving a mission for the church. Right now I'm living in the Midwest and am attending dental school. I have lots of hobbies and interests - more than I have time to keep up on or list here. If an activity involves being outdoors or doing something physical I'll probably like it. I like to learn any new skill that I can so I can be as well rounded as possible. I also like to read non-fiction books so I can be a more educated and informed person.

Why I am a Mormon

The church has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I was raised in a Mormon family so my parents taught me all about it and took me to church every week where I could learn more. The reason why I have chosen to continue being a Mormon is because I know that the church is true. Not only do the teachings of the church make sense to me logically, but more importantly, as I've read the Book of Mormon, listened to church leaders, and lived according to the teachings of the church I have been blessed by Heavenly Father. The Holy Ghost has brought peace into my heart and helped me to know that this Church really does belong to Jesus Christ and that it teaches the truth about God.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by going to church every Sunday, participating in church activities, reading the scriptures, praying often, and trying to live my life like Heavenly Father wants me to. Right now I attend a congregation that is made up entirely of young single adults. It's great to have a place where I can go and mingle with people who are all in roughly the same phase of life and who have common beliefs. We meet together for church on Sunday then during the week we have other activities where we get together and socialize.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

Mormons believe that God is a glorified man. The scriptures teach us that we were created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27) so we know that we look like him and he looks like us. God is the father of our spirits and we lived with him before we were born. This is why we often call him our Heavenly Father. Our Heavenly Father has infinite power and knowledge. He is just and merciful. He is loving and kind. He is perfect in every way.He is always there for us. We can trust him completely because he keeps his promises and wants what is best for us. We can pray to him and he will listen and give us the perfect answer. As we get to know him better, he will become our best friend. When we learn to trust him and have faith in him our lives become better. We will feel at peace. We'll know that we can overcome any obstacle. We'll know that things will work out for the best because we are in his hands and he is taking care of us. Show more Show less
