Hi I'm Roger

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a music professor at a university in the Southwestern United States. I am married and have five beautiful children. I am a soloist and choral conductor. We love to play basketball as a family and go on bike rides. Most of all we love to be together as a family. My wife is an English teacher by profession, but has chosen to stay home currently to "teach" in the home and is doing a fabulous job!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have received a special witness from the Holy Spirit that this is his church. This was not something that another person could have convinced me of. There are too many people that are swayed by the "ideas of men." I wanted to know for my self. I was told if (1) I read the Book of Mormon, (2) prayed to God with an open and sincere heart asking if it was true, and (3) if I practiced the teachings that are taught in it that I would receive a special and personal witness from the Holy Ghost letting me know if it was true. It happened! and it has repeatedly happened since. This church not only teaches the true gospel of Jesus Christ, but provides the framework through its divine organization to guide and foster spiritual growth in its members. This is an active church where its members work together helping each other work towards perfection. I feel a great sense of happiness when I live the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This happiness comes because of the solid answers that are provided to life's most important and pressing questions.

How I live my faith

We have recently moved from the Midwest. The congregation where we moved to has welcomed us with open arms. They came and helped us unpack our moving truck in droves. Almost too many people showed up, but we felt their love. It is this love that strengthens my faith; it is this love that helps me want to give to others of my time, talents, and all that I have and am. Even though I teach music everyday as my job, I have been called by my Father in Heaven to serve as the choir director in my congregation, an unpaid position. This musical experience is very different than what I do at the university. One saying I heard that I have always kept with me is, music in the church is "to bless, not to impress." I feel very fortunate to be able to have exposure to great students and feel the joy that comes from music; the inspiration that can only be felt by a unified group of singers singing beautiful and inspirational texts. I feel that I live my faith by sharing my talents and bringing a smile to people's and a warm feeling that can only come through music.

What is being a Mormon like?

Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a lifestyle that promotes Christ-like lives. It is not a "Sunday" religion, but an everyday religion. It is a religion that helps my family be nice to each other, something that is difficult sometimes. Show more Show less
