Hi I'm Patty Stupka Mitchell

I'm a Mormon. Some days that even surprises me. But here I found the truth for which I'd been searching my entire life.

About Me

I'm Iowa born and bred, a cradle Catholic, a wife, a mother, a grandmother. I crochet, quilt, and do counted cross-stitch. And I read. There are times, even after 17 years, when I find myself surprised to be a Mormon. But life has its ups and downs and throughout life my heart became broken and my spirit contrite. Those were the words that most touched me when I first read The Book of Mormon: "broken heart and contrite spirit." It took 51 years until the Lord knew I was ready to be introduced to his church. I can look back and list each step along the way. His ways are marvelous indeed.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because this is the Lord's own true church. I sought wisdom and truth for decades. And, finally, I was ready to find it. Everything I was taught by the missionaries rang true with me. I was parched for the truths they shared...pre-mortal life, continuing revelation (the Heavens are NOT closed!), a Heavenly Father waiting for me to return to him, eternal families linked through generations, no paid clergy, members living as Jesus taught, the constant presence of the Holy Spirit that can be ours.

How I live my faith

We are taught to pray daily, read and study our scriptures daily, attend our meetings, live up to our covenants and renew our covenants. This may sound like a tall order, but step by step, and hand in hand with the Lord, this can be accomplished. At the moment I have two callings, both of which I love: ward music director and secretary to the ward Relief Society presidency. With one I work with the musicians and pick out the music to be sung during Sacrament Meeting. With the other I use my organizational skills to aid in strengthening sisters and their families.
