Hi I'm Valerie

I am a mother, a wife, and a university graduate. I find great joy in spending time with family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife, mother, and homemaker. I love my husband and child so much! I enjoy reading, learning (especially more about the Gospel), and LOVE to have fun!

Why I am a Mormon

My father converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when he was 14 years old. My mother was a member of the church her whole life. I grew up a member of this church and was baptized when I was 8 years old. I remember feeling the influence of the Holy Ghost at a young age. I read the Book of Mormon for the first time when I was 8--I wanted to prepare for my baptism. There was not a huge sign showing me that this church was true, but that's because the the Holy Ghost influences us with a still and quiet voice. I remember after praying and reading scriptures, I felt so good and knew that the Church is true, that the Book of Mormon is another Testament of Jesus Christ and is true, and that Joseph Smith did indeed restore the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and translated the Book of Mormon under Jesus Christ's direction and power. I still feel the Holy Ghost's influence testifying to me that these things are true in my life. I have had a testimony (or conviction that this church and it's teachings are true) since I can remember and am grateful for the happy life I live. Life is not always easy--I have had challenges as big as suffering from congestive heart failure to small things like feeling lonely or left out. But, life has ALWAYS had HOPE because I know who I am and I know there is a purpose to this life. Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has blessed me so much. It is because of this Church that I am so happy and it is because of God that I am healthy (I no longer suffer from any affects from 18 years of heart problems). As I have been obedient to God's commandments and have shown faith in Him, He has guided my life and I have always been happy when I have followed Him. I have faith in Jesus Christ's atonement and continuously apply it to my life. If you have not, please read the Book of Mormon. There is a promise in the Book of Mormon that if you read with faith and real intent, you will KNOW the book is true (see Moroni 10: 4-5 in the Book of Mormon). You can know for yourself if this is God't true church. It will change your life for the good. I don't know who is reading this, but I have love for you. You are a child of God.

How I live my faith

Praying and reading scriptures (Bible, Book of Mormon, Ensign magazine or words of prophets) daily helps me live my faith. By doing this, I am reminded of the purpose of life and in turn, am able to more fully focus on the best and most important things in life. Along with a few other ladies in my neighborhood, I teach the young women (12-18 year old girls) in my ward. We plan Wednesday evening activities and prepare Gospel lessons we teach to them every Sunday. We plan a week long girl's camp for the young women every summer and we also work with other church leaders to plan a youth conference, which includes the young men (12-18 year old boys) in our ward. I love serving in the church--it gives me the opportunity to serve people and to learn to love people as Jesus Christ loved others.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Yes! God has prophets on earth today like in the Biblical times. Our current prophet (2010) is President Thomas S. Monson. I know he is a prophet of God and believe that God gives him instruction for the people of today. I study his council and then apply it to my life. Show more Show less

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

I believe the church continues to grow and increase in numbers because it is true and each person who has a desire, can know that for themselves through the Spirit of God. We also have wonderful missionaries and members of the church who live good lives and are happy. Others see that and want to know what makes them so happy. Well, it's being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and having faith in what this church teaches. The Church teaches us and encourages us to make choices God would want us to make so we can be happy. Show more Show less
